Publication 15 and 30 w holmium: Yag laser lithotriptor in ureteroscopic lithotripsy: Which one is more effective and safe?(Mary Ann Liebert, 2021-05-05) Kaygısız, Onur; Aydın, Yavuz Mert; Çicek, Mehmet Çağatay; Çelen, Sinan; Coşkun, Burhan; Kılıçarslan, Hakan; Kaygısız, Onur; KAYGISIZ, ONUR; Aydın, Yavuz Mert; AYDIN, YAVUZ MERT; Çicek, Mehmet Çağatay; ÇİÇEK, MEHMET ÇAĞATAY; Coşkun, Burhan; COŞKUN, BURHAN; Kılıçarslan, Hakan; KILIÇARSLAN, HAKAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Üroloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-9790-7295; 0000-0002-6287-6767; 0000-0002-0471-5404; 0000-0002-8242-9921; JCO-5169-2023; AFP-3055-2022; L-9439-2019Background: Holmium:yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Ho:YAG) laser lithotripsy with ureteroscopy (URS) was a safe and successful treatment option for pediatric ureteral stones. We aimed to comparatively evaluate the outcomes of 15 and 30 W Ho:YAG laser lithotriptors in pediatric ureter stones.Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 55 children who underwent ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy to treat ureter stone size up to 15 mm between September 2009 and March 2020. Groups were formed according to the laser lithotriptor power 15 W (Group 15: n = 32), 30 W (Group 30: n = 23). The efficiency of laser lithotriptors was compared between the groups. Results: The age, gender, and stone characteristics (longest stone diameter, density, location and multiple stones) were similar between the groups. In the postop first month, stone-free status was achieved in all cases except one child in Group 15. The median operative time was significantly shorter in Group 30 (40 minutes) than in Group 15 (52.5 minutes) (P = .010). Clavien-Dindo class (CDC) 2 complications occurred in 2 children in both groups (P = .597). Although ureteric stenosis was observed in 1 patient in Group 15, no ureteric stenosis was seen in Group 30 during follow-up (median 16.1 months). Length of hospital stay (LoHS) and stone-free rates were similar between groups. Conclusion: URS with 15 and 30 W Ho:YAG laser lithotriptors is an effective treatment option for pediatric ureteral stones with a high success rate and low complication rates. In brief, 30 W Ho:YAG laser lithotriptors should be preferred over 15 W lithotriptors due to their shorter operative time with similar success rate.Publication 195 hand injuries in 12 days: The outcomes of the feast of sacrifice(Iranian Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Assoc, 2016-05-01) Akın, Selçuk; AKIN, SELÇUK; Ersen, Burak; Saki, Mehmet Can; Tunali, Orhan; Köse, Mehmet; Aksu, Ismail; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi.; 0000-0002-3003-918X; AAH-5064-2021Publication 19th century Greek churches of Mudanya(Ege Univ, 2019-10-01) Aydın, Ersin; Özügül, Ayşin; ÖZÜGÜL, AYŞİN; 0000-0001-6463-2080; AAH-6690-2021Until 1924, the majority of the population of Mudanya, one of the towns that Ottomans first conquered in Bithynia (1321), was composed of Greeks. The existence of many Greek churches in Mudanya is known both from written sources and from surviving buildings. Two of the ten churches rebuilt are used as cultural centers. The walls of the three churches whose roofs have been destroyed are about to collapse. Only one of the other five churches has extant with a height of about one meter. In the Ottoman period, except for the exceptions, the new church was not built until the 19th century, the churches belonging to the Byzantine and pre 19th-century Ottoman periods were repaired to and used with the permission of the sultan. Owing to the reform brought by the Edicts of Tanzimat (1839) and Islahat (1856), the foundations of small-size churches that were demolished were rebuilt on a larger scale. In the Ottoman archives, the documents related to these churches include the reasons for reconstruction, their size, the cost of construction and how this cost will be met, as well as the community population that will use the church, as well as the ground floor plan and front view drawings of some churches. All of the Greek churches in Mudanya have basilica plan, door and window openings with round arches, as well as columns, arches and inner roofs of the naos, have been constructed of wood. The facade arrangement and decorations of the church buildings in Mudanya which have close similarities with the contemporary Greek churches of Bursa and Istanbul, are in eclectic style.Publication 21st-century skills as predictors of pre- service teachers' professional qualifications: A cross-sectional study(Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi, 2023-01-01) Yurt, Eyüp; YURT, EYÜP; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi; 0000-0003-4732-6879; JPK-4403-2023This study aimed to determine the impact of teacher candidates' 21st-century skills on their professional competence by controlling for gender, grade level, and income status. Three hundred eighty teacher candidates from different classes and departments were selected to participate in the study. The data obtained using the Multidimensional 21st-Century Skills and Professional Competence Scales were analyzed using the structural equation modeling method. The results indicate that teacher candidates' 21st-century skills positively affect their professional competence when controlling for gender, grade level, and income status. The findings emphasize the importance of pre-service teachers for their future careers to have 21st-century skills such as information and technology literacy, critical thinking and problem-solving, entrepreneurship and innovation, social responsibility and leadership, and career consciousness. It has been concluded that teacher training programs should be designed to support teacher candidates in acquiring 21st-century skills and developing their professional competencies.Publication 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in non-small cell lung cancer patients(Wiley, 2018-12-01) Sahintürk, Serdar; Sahintürk, Kadriye; ŞAHİNTÜRK, SERDAR; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Fizik Bölümü; 0000-0002-7612-0055; ACQ-9887-2022Publication 2d Temperature analysis of energy and exergy characteristics of laminar steady flow across a square cylinder under strong blockage(MDPI, 2015-05-01) Korukçu, Mehmet Özgün; KORUKÇU, MEHMET ÖZGÜN; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü; JAO-3455-2023Energy and exergy characteristics of a square cylinder (SC) in confined flow are investigated computationally by numerically handling the steady-state continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equations in the Reynolds number range of Re = 10-50, where the blockage ratio ( = B/H) is kept constant at the high level of = 0.8. Computations indicated for the upstream region that, the mean non-dimensional streamwise (u/U-o) and spanwise (v/U-o) velocities attain the values of u/U-o = 0.8400.879 and v/U-o = 0.2360.386 (Re = 1050) on the front-surface of the SC, implying that Reynolds number and blockage have stronger impact on the spanwise momentum activity. It is determined that flows with high Reynolds number interact with the front-surface of the SC developing thinner thermal boundary layers and greater temperature gradients, which promotes the thermal entropy generation values as well. The strict guidance of the throat, not only resulted in the fully developed flow character, but also imposed additional cooling; such that the analysis pointed out the drop of duct wall (y = 0.025 m) non-dimensional temperature values () from = 0.3870.926 (Re = 1050) at x(th) = 0 mm to = 0.0020.266 at x(th) = 40 mm. In the downstream region, spanwise thermal disturbances are evaluated to be most inspectable in the vortex driven region, where the temperature values show decrease trends in the spanwise direction. In the corresponding domain, exergy destruction is determined to grow with Reynolds number and decrease in the streamwise direction (x(ds) = 010 mm). Besides, asymmetric entropy distributions as well were recorded due to the comprehensive mixing caused by the vortex system.Publication 6-Phosphofructo-2-kinase (PFKFB3) promotes cell cycle progression and suppresses apoptosis via Cdk1-mediated phosphorylation of p27(Nature Publishing Group, 2014-07-01) Yalçın, Abdullah; Clem, B. The family of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatases (PFKFB1-4) are well established regulators of glucose metabolism via their synthesis of fructose-2,6-bisphosphate (F2,6BP), a potent allosteric activator of 6-phosphofructo-1-kinase (Pfk-1). PFKFB3 is overexpressed in human cancers, regulated by HIF-1 alpha, Akt and PTEN, and required for the survival and growth of multiple cancer types. Although most functional studies of the role of PFKFB3 in cancer progression have invoked its well-recognized function in the regulation of glycolysis, recent observations have established that PFKFB3 also traffics to the nucleus and that its product, F2,6BP, activates cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks). In particular, F2,6BP stimulates the Cdk-mediated phosphorylation of the Cip/Kip protein p27 (threonine 187), which in turn results in p27's ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. As p27 is a potent suppressor of the G1/S transition and activator of apoptosis, we hypothesized that the known requirement of PFKFB3 for cell cycle progression and prevention of apoptosis may be partly due to the ability of F2,6BP to activate Cdks. In this study, we demonstrate that siRNA silencing of endogenous PFKFB3 inhibits Cdk1 activity, which in turn stabilizes p27 protein levels causing cell cycle arrest at G1/S and increased apoptosis in HeLa cells. Importantly, we demonstrate that the increase in apoptosis and suppression of the G1/S transition caused by siRNA silencing of PFKFB3 expression is reversed by co-siRNA silencing of p27. Taken together with prior publications, these observations support a model whereby PFKFB3 and F2,6BP function not only as regulators of Pfk-1 but also of Cdk1 activity, and therefore serve to couple glucose metabolism with cell proliferation and survival in transformed cells.Publication 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose 2,6-bisphosphatase-3 regulates the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in tumor cells(Wiley-blackwell, 2016-09-01) McNally, L.; Yalcin, Abdullah; YALÇIN, ABDULLAH; Sevinc, E.; Guzel, S.; GÜZEL, SAİME; Özcan, C.; Şamlı, H.; ŞAMLI, HALE; 0000-0001-8519-8375; 0000-0003-0796-5000; 0000-0002-6453-025X; 0000-0002-8012-6097; AAH-4275-2021; AAA-6938-2022; AAH-6488-2021; ABI-4164-2020Publication 72 week data of the HIDIT-1 trial: A multicenter randomised study comparing peginterferon α-2a plus adefovir vs. peginterferon α-2a plus placebo vs. adefovir in chronic delta hepatitis(Elsevier Science Bv, 2007-01-01) Wedemeyer, H.; Yurdaydin, C.; Dalekos, G.; Erhardt, A.; Cakaloglu, Y.; Degertekin, H.; Gürel, S.; Zeuzem, S.; Bock, T.; Zachou, K.; Bozkaya, H.; Drebber, U.; Meyer, S.; Dienes, H. The nuc gene was targeted due to its low intraspecies variation and the greater interspecies variation than the 16S rRNA gene in Staphylococcus. We used HRMA software that can store and compare HRMA profiles from different runs as long as the runs contain the same reference reaction. Thus, we reduced the 14 PCRs to 2 different PCRs, one targeting the unknown sequence and the other targeting the reference sequences to screen 13 different Staphylococcus species. The specificity of the developed method was tested on 16 different Staphylococcus reference strains and 115 different field strains that were isolated from the milk of cattle with subclinical mastitis. We conclude that the method can be used to quickly and cost-effectively differentiate Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) from other Staphylococcus species (S. epidermidis, S. lugdunensis, S. schleiferi, S. hyicus, S. chromogenes, S. lentus, S. haemolyticus, S. xylosus, S. saprophyticus, S. warneri, S. simulans and S. hominis).Publication A 3 year review of a cohort turkish paediatric oncology group (TURKPEDPGx)(Wiley, 2018-11-01) Baskın, Y.; Uncu, B.; Leblebici, A.; Kocal, G. The defect has been described in human beings, dogs, cats, pigs, and horses.Case presentationThis paper describes the case of a complete atrioventricular canal defect in a four-year-old intact male pet ferret (Mustela putorius furo), which was presented due to posterior weakness, ataxia, and decreased appetite. A loud systolic murmur, dyspnea, and hind limb paraparesis were detected during the clinical examination. Thoracic radiographs showed generalized cardiomegaly and lung edema. ECG showed sinus rhythm with prolonged P waves and QRS complexes. Echocardiography showed a large atrial septal defect, atrioventricular dysplasia, and a ventricular septal defect. Palliative treatment with oxygen, furosemide, spironolactone, enalapril, diltiazem, and supportive care was chosen as the therapy of choice. The ferret recovered gradually during hospitalization. A follow-up examination at three and six months showed stabilization of cardiac function.ConclusionsTo the authors knowledge, this is the first time an atrioventricular canal defect has been described in a pet ferret.Publication A case of adrenal mass causing adrenal insufficiency: Tuberculosis(Aves, 2017-03-01) Şişman, Pınar; Peynirci, Hande; Saraydaroğlu, Özlem; Sahin, Ahmet Bilgehan; Gül, Özen Öz; Ersoy, Canan; Şişman, Pınar; Peynirci, Hande; SARAYDAROĞLU, ÖZLEM; ŞAHİN, AHMET BİLGEHAN; ÖZ GÜL, ÖZEN; ERSOY, CANAN; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Endokrinoloji ve Metabolizma Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Patoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/İç Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-7846-0870; AAM-4927-2020; AAH-9701-2021; AAI-1005-2021; AAH-8861-2021; GRY-0605-2022; DUS-9872-2022Tuberculosis, the prevalence of which has continued to decline in developed countries, is still one of the reasons of adrenal insufficiency. In this report, we aimed to present a case of adrenal and miliary tuberculosis presenting with adrenal insufficiency. A 71-year-old woman with a history of unilateral adrenalectomy was admitted with the symptoms of adrenal insufficiency. In her further medical investigations, the diagnosis of primary adrenal insufficiency was established and a mass presenting as involvement of tuberculosis was detected in the adrenal gland. Bilateral pulmonary nodules compatible with miliary tuberculosis were observed. After anti-tuberculosis treatment, pulmonary nodules disappeared, but there was no significant decrease in the size of the adrenal mass. The patient, who underwent adrenalectomy, was followed with glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid treatment. Tuberculosis of the adrenal glands is a common cause of adrenal insufficiency in developing countries. Tuberculosis can destroy the adrenal glands and the diagnosis of adrenal tuberculosis, especially presenting with enlargement of the adrenal glands, can be difficult.Publication A case of an antithrombin deficiency with mesenteric thromboses and cerebral infarct(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2016-05-01) Alp, Tuğcan; ÖZKALEMKAŞ, FAHİR; Özkocaman, Vildan; ÖZKOCAMAN, VİLDAN; Özkalemkaş, Fahir; Şanlı, C.; Gözden, H. In this study, we present an arthropod-borne ulceroglandular tularemia case in Bursa province.Publication A case of behcet's disease concomitant with kaposi's sarcoma(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2010-06-01) Erdem, Hatice; Hacıoğlu, Şenay Yıldız; Sarıcaoğlu, Hayriye; Dilek, Kamil; Adım, Şaduman Balaban; Erdem, Hatice; Hacıoğlu, Şenay Yıldız; SARICAOĞLU, HAYRİYE; DİLEK, KAMİL; BALABAN ADIM, ŞADUMAN; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Dermatol Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Nefrol Romatoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Patoloji Anabilim Dalı.; HIZ-7238-2022; ICQ-8894-2023; DPU-8534-2022; EUF-5229-2022; EMN-0789-2022Iatrogenic Kaposi's sarcoma is a subtype of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), which is a vascular malignant tumor and is seen in organ transplant recipients and in patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy due to other reasons. Iatrogenic KS can develop after corticosteroid or immunosuppressive drug therapy due to systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, polymyalgia rheumatica and Beh double dagger et's disease, generally with ocular involvement. Our case was a 44-year old male patient. Colchicine and prednisolone were administered for his mucocutaneous findings and polyarthritis. In the seventh month of the therapy, four symmetric, brown-red coloured, asymptomatic macules developed on the inner surface of his left foot. In histopathologic specimens; CD34 positive, atypical spindle cells with swollen nuclei formed bundles and vascular spaces filled with erythrocytes. The patient was diagnosed as KS histopathologically and clinically. HHV-8 DNA was positive with PCR. Regression was observed in the lesions after the cessation of corticosteroid treatment. This case is presented because he was the only case with iatrogenic Kaposi's sarcoma among our Behcet's disease patients receiving corticosteroids or immunosuppressive therapies.Publication A case of brucellosis with subcutaneous abscess(Aves, 2006-12-01) Güler, Hicran; Mistik, Reşit; Kabas, Mine; Heper, Yasemin; HEPER, YASEMİN; Hakyemez, Bahattin; HAKYEMEZ, BAHATTİN; Helvacı, Safiye; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Mikrobiyoloji ve Enfeksiyon Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; AAI-2318-2021; AAH-6506-2021A case of brucellosis with subcutaneous abscess adjacent to the parotis gland is presented in this study. It is proposed to occur as a result of abnormal host response to Pityrosporum ovale or to be a keratinization disorder. Clinically, brownish hyperkeratotic, reticular papules and plaques which tend to coalesce are seen on seborrheic areas. A 16-year-old female patient admitted to our outpatient clinic because of itchy brown spots on her neck, anterior trunk and the back region for three years. She was diagnosed as CRP due to the clinical and histopathological findings and was treated successfully with a combination of topical calcipotriol and tretinoin. We aimed to review the clinical findings and treatment options of CRP, a rare dermatosis, in the light of the literature on the occasion of this case.
