Item Ayak tabanı ve ayak bileği iç taraf bağlarının morfolojisi(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2016-07-01) Babacan, Serdar; Kafa, İlker Mustafa; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Tıp/Anatomi Anabilim Dalı.Ayak, vücudun yerle temas eden distal segmentidir. Bulguların analizleri istatistik programı SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences/ver.22)'de yapıldı. Item Evaluating the anatomical traits of lip on three-dimensional computed tomography images(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2020-03) Işıklar, Sefa; İlker Mustafa, Kafa; Gökhan, Gökalp; Babacan, Serdar; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Anatomi Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-2070-5193; 0000-0001-9169-5087; 0000-0002-7410-7738; AAI-2336-2021; AAG-7125-2021; AAK-3779-2021; ABF-7082-2020; 57211618744; 57193335308; 8450193200; 8312505100Background:Lips and mouth are the most recognizable parts of the lower face. The morphometry of the facial organs is important for the balance of the face. Besides congenital anomalies occur on the lips, some kinds of deformities might be seen because of trauma or carcinoma. In this respect, lips are in the study of plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery and orthodontics. Lip morphology also takes an important role in forensic facial reconstruction (facial approximation).Materials and Methods:Twenty parameters on the soft tissue and 12 parameters on the hard tissue were measured on three dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) images belonging 50 individuals (25 female, mean age 35.409.97; 25 male, mean age 34.3211.06).Results:Statistical significance was observed on 4 parameters measured at soft tissue and 6 parameters measured in hard tissue. Statistical significance was not seen between the measurements taken bilaterally. Fourteen equations were developed in order to estimate the lip morphometry using the morphometric traits of hard tissue. Conclusion:We hope that the results of current study will be useful at surgery and forensic sciences.Publication Examination of facial convexity and concavity values with reference to the external acoustic pore: A retrospective study(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2023-05) Çini, Nilgün Tuncel; Babacan, Serdar; Sak, Nazan Güner; Işıklar, Sefa; Arı, İlknur; Gökalp, Gökhan; IŞIKLAR, SEFA; ARI, İLKNUR; GÖKALP, GÖKHAN; Sak, Nazan Güner; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi; 0000-0002-2070-5193; HNN-1671-2023; AAK-3779-2021; ELI-9107-2022; GMO-0473-2022The human skull serves as an essential material for facial reconstruction. In particular, the petrous part of the temporal bone is vital due to its compact structure, which can resist mechanical forces. The study aims to give descriptive values to estimate the face shape and produce regression formulas through the external acoustic pore as a reference point. The study was carried out on 3-dimensional computed tomography images, a total of 83 adult images (45 females and 38 males) in the Department of Radiology of Bursa Uludag University Medical Faculty. The distances between the imaginary vertical line passing through the porion and the anthropometric points revealing the facial features were measured for the soft and hard tissue. The vertical distances between the soft and hard tissue landmarks were also measured for both sexes. Measurements were performed with the Image J program, and for the statistical analysis, SPSS 25.0 was used (P < 0.005). Linear simple regression analysis was used to produce formulas to estimate the soft tissue thickness using hard tissue. Also, discriminant function analysis was performed to determine sex in the presence of an unknown skull. The descriptive values of the variables on the axial and vertical planes and the differences between sexes are given. Also, all formulas make accurate predictions of 90% or more. The authors tried to estimate the anatomical points that roughly reveal the facial features with the regression formulas developed using anthropometric measurements. The authors think that the shape of the face, which is more specific to the individual, can be reached more clearly using mathematical models, and the authors believe that this study will set an example for future studies.Publication Investigation of morphological and biomechanical properties of the scapula for shoulder joint(Galenos Publishing House, 2023-09) Cini, Nilgün Tuncel; Sak, Nazan Güner; Babacan, Serdar; Arı, İlknur; ARI, İLKNUR; Sak, Nazan Güner; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Anatomi Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0002-7410-7738; ELI-9107-2022; HNN-1671-2023Objective: The glenopolar angle is a helpful criterion for recommending operative treatment. This study aims to determine the morphometric features of the scapula and provide essential information that supplies scapular biomechanics to produce a formula. Methods: The study was carried out on 34 dry scapulae in the laboratory of the Anatomy Department of the Faculty of Medicine, Bursa Uludag University. We used calipers for the linear measurements and the ImageJ program for the area and angle parameters. A total of 23 parameters were evaluated in the study. Statistical analyzes were performed using SPSS 22.0 software. Results: According to the results of the correlation analysis, the highest correlation value of (R=0.957) was found to be the distance between the superior angle (angulus superior)-top of the glenoid plane and the inferior angle (angulus inferior)-the top of the glenoid plane. To estimate the glenopolar angle, we applied linear regression analysis and developed the following formula: Glenopolar angle =115.589 - (6.401 x the distance between the coracoid process and the top of the glenoid cavity) - (0.368 x angle between the glenoid plane and the lateral edge of the scapula extending towards the endpoint of the glenoid plane) (Adjusted R2=0.667).Conclusions: Glenopolar angle can provide information about the fracture risk of the glenoid cavity and allows orthopedic surgeons to make quick decisions about the risk in the region. We believe that the study will provide a different perspective on designing different products in industrial designs for shoulder joints, especially in implantations.Publication Morphology of the ligaments located on the medial side of the ankle and on the plantar surface of the foot(Springer, 2022-01-25) Babacan, Serdar; Kafa, İlker Mustafa; KAFA, İLKER MUSTAFA; 0000-0002-7410-7738; 0000-0001-8309-0934; ABF-7082-2020To have biodynamic features, the feet have bones located in a special posture, the joints that keep together those bones, the ligaments that provide linkage to those joints, and tendons of muscles particularly which end the foot. This study aimed to research the morphology of the medial side and plantar ligaments. The study was conducted on a total of 30 feet belonging to 2 women and 13 men cadavers that exist at the Anatomy Department of the Medical Faculty of Uludag University. After the dissections, 61 parameters that belonging to the ligaments and general features of the foot, were evaluated. The statistical analysis of the collected data was evaluated by SPSS 20.0. According to the findings, while the descriptive statistics of the foot and the ligaments related to the foot, the statistically significant difference of any of the parameters wasn't observed when they were compared between the right and left sides of the foot. In terms of the correlative relations, the parameters that showed high correlation were chosen and 28 formulas were developed using regression analysis. We foresee that our findings of the features belonging to normal anatomic structures will deepen our knowledge besides providing important benefits before or during orthopedic and plastic surgery operations related to the region. Also, our findings were discussed by comparing the findings of similar studies belonging to many other researchers in literature, and our study's contribution to the literature was evaluated.Publication Morphometric features of external opening of the carotid canal and relationship with some neighboring formations on the skull base(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2020-06-01) Çini, Nilgün Tuncel; Babacan, Serdar; Arı, İlknur; BABACAN, SERDAR; ARI, İLKNUR; Çini, Nilgün Tuncer; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Anatomi Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0002-7410-7738; ABF-7082-2020; CKL-4474-2022; ELI-9107-2022The carotid canal must be taken into account during the surgical procedures since it contains the petrous segment of internal carotid artery. For this reason, we aimed to reveal the morphometric relationship of the carotid canal with related structures. The study was carried out with 11 parameters determined on a total of 52 sex unknown temporal bones belonging to the collection of Bursa Uludag University Faculty of Medicine, Anatomy Department. Measurements were taken by using mechanical sliding calipers and the findings were evaluated using the SPSS 22.0 program. Descriptive statistics of all variables were performed and correlation between the carotid canal and related structures were evaluated with the Spearman correlation analysis. Also, the correlation coefficient values were given. We developed the regression formulas to estimate the location of the carotid canal. There was a relationship between posterior and anterior point of external opening of carotid canal and mastoid process. The distance between the mastoid process-suprameatal spine and mastoid process-posterior root of zygomatic arch is highly correlated with each other.Publication Redesign of missing mandible by determining age group and gender from morphometric features of skull for facial reconstruction (approximation)(Springer Heidelberg, 2021-05-01) Babacan, Serdar; Işıklar, Sefa; Kafa, İlker Mustafa; Gökalp, Gökhan; GÖKALP, GÖKHAN; KAFA, İLKER MUSTAFA; IŞIKLAR, SEFA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/ Sağlık Hizmetleri MYO; 0000-0002-7410-7738; 0000-0002-2070-5193; 0000-0001-8309-0934; AAK-3779-2021; AAG-7125-2021; GMO-0473-2022The identification of an unknown person by facial reconstruction, gender, and age determination is one of the duties of the forensic sciences. In some cases, the skull and mandible cannot be obtained together. In this case, facial reconstruction of the skull without a mandible becomes a serious problem. The aim of our study was to design the mandible suitable for the anatomic structure of the skull by first determining the age group and gender of the skull for skulls without mandible. Our study was carried out on 3D-CT images provided in Bursa Uludag University Radiology Department. Individuals were divided into five age groups considering tooth and bone development. Our study was conducted on 282 3D-BT images. Twenty-three variables on the mandible and 54 variables on the skull were examined. SPSS 20.0 was performed for the developing the regression formulas, discriminant function analysis, and descriptive and comparative statistics. Comparative and descriptive statistical findings between sexes and age groups are presented in tables. Discriminant function analyzes were performed for age group and gender determination. Regression formulas were developed for the redesign of the missing mandible suitable for the skull anatomy. We believe that our thesis will be useful for forensic scientists and anthropologists with the regression formulas that will design the mandible suitable for the anatomy of the skulls without the mandible and age group determination by discriminant analysis method with morphometric data.Publication The surface and intracranial location of asterion(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2019-11-01) Babacan, Serdar; BABACAN, SERDAR; Yıldız-Yılmaz, Meriç; Kafa, İlker Mustafa; KAFA, İLKER MUSTAFA; Coşkun, İhsaniye; COŞKUN, İHSANİYE; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Anatomi Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-7410-7738; 0000-0001-8309-0934; 0000-0001-6484-7153; AAG-7125-2021; ABF-7082-2020; AAH-5390-2021Background: Asterion is identified as the connection point of sutura parietomastoidea, sutura occipitomastoidea, and sutura lamb doidea. The location of asterion, which is primarily preferred as a landmark during posterolateral surgical approach for intracranial operations, shows many variables. The aim of this study was to identify the surface location of the asterion and determine the distances between intracranial anatomical structures and asterion. Methods: At this present study, 11 hemicraniums (22 asterion points), situated at the laboratory of Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, Bursa Uludag University, were used. The asterion points which the sesamoid bone located were classified as type I and the ones which sesamoid bone did not locate were classified as type II. According to the proximity of asterion with sinus transversus, 3 groups were classified. About 19 parameters were measured related to asterion. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS 22.Results: As a result of findings, while sesamoid bone was seen at 7 asterion points (type I), at 15 points sesamoid bone was not detected (type II) (respectively, 31.81%, 68.19%). It was identified that 15 asterion points were at the surface, 5 ones were average 3.42 +/- 2.52 nun over, 2 ones average 3.21 +/- 2.26 nun below of the projection of sinus transversus. Statistically significance was not seen between the measurements taken from left and right sides.Discussion and Conclusion: Asterion is an important landmark for the retrosigmoid approaches. The surface and intracranial location of the asterion and proximity with dural sinuses are important for surgeons not to cause fatal subdural hematomas during the approaches using "Burr Hole" technic in neurochirurgie operations.
