Item Atmospheric deposition of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs): Species, levels, diurnal and seasonal fluctuations, transfer velocities(Springer, 2018) Eker, Gizem; Taşdemir, Yücel; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Çevre Mühendisliği Bölümü.; AAH-3216-2021; AAG-9468-2021; 57194528498; 6603118338Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in the persistent organic pollutants class are pollutants that can enter water reservoirs, soils, and sediments by atmospheric deposition. The aim of the present study was to determine the total atmospheric deposition fluxes of OCPs in a semi-rural area in Bursa, Turkey. Total deposition fluxes, phase distributions, dry deposition velocities and mass transfer coefficients were calculated in the samples collected during day and night periods. Ambient air OCP samples were also taken simultaneously. Samples were analyzed for 9 OCP compounds (alpha-, beta-, and gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane; heptachlor epoxide; endrin; endosulfan beta; endrin aldehyde; and methoxychlor). OCPs were found predominantly in gas and dissolved phases in all seasons for the ambient air and deposition samples, respectively. The annual maximum averages of deposition fluxes for dissolved and particulate phases for the beta-HCH compound were 200.2 ng/m(2)-day and 28.6 ng/m(2)-day, respectively. The average dry deposition velocity and mass transfer coefficient values calculated for OCPs were 4.6 +/- 5.5 cm/s and 0.46 +/- 0.37 cm/s, respectively, and these values were in line with the values in the literature. In the nighttime and daytime samples, the average deposition fluxes of OCP compounds in the dissolved phase were 1.5-10 times higher than those in the particulate phase. Although there were no great differences in daytime and nighttime samples, it was found that the flux values during daytime periods were sometimes higher.Item Bursa'nin zeytinlik arazilerindeki topraklarda poliaromatik hidrokarbon (pah) konsantrasyonlarinin bölgesel deǧişimi(Gazi Üniversitesi, 2016-01-22) Eker, Gizem; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Çevre Mühendisliği Bölümü.; AAH-3216-2021; 57194528498Bu çalışmada, Bursa ilindeki zeytinliklerdeki toprak örneklerinde poliaromatik hidrokarbon (PAH) kaynaklı kirlilik düzeylerinin ilkbahar mevsimindeki bölgesel değişiminin belirlenmesi ve halka dağılımlarının ortaya konması amaçlanmıştır. Item Effect of UV wavelength, temperature and photocatalyst on the removal of PAHs from industrial soil with photodegradation applications(Taylor, 2019-12-19) Eker, Gizem; Hatipoğlu, Melis; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Çevre Mühendisliği/Çevre Teknolojisi Bölümü.; AAH-3216-2021; 57194528498; 57202849539The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of UV-based processes to the removal of PAHs from soils with and without photocatalyst. PAH removal experiments were conducted in a specially designed UV photochamber. The effects of various factors, namely temperature, light wavelength (UVA, UVC), TiO2 dose on the removal of PAHs were examined. Furthermore, evaporation ratios of PAHs during UV applications were determined with polyurethane foam (PUF) samples. Temperature increase positively affected PAH removal process. The total 12 (?(12)) PAH content reduced by 86?90% in the soil samples during UV applications. With the use of UVA rays, higher ?(12) PAH removal was enhanced when compared to UVC rays. It was thought that in the existence of UVC rays, other aromatic compounds or other PAHs in soil converted to targeted PAHs with photodegradation. The amounts of evaporated PAHs from soil were increased with increasing of temperature and more than 90% of PAHs in the air consisted of 3?4 ring compounds. It was found that TiO2 provided an increase in removal ratios and ?(12) PAHs removal ratios changed between 87% and 94%. Furthermore, the amount of PAH migrated to the air decreased during this application. During UVA-TiO2 and UVC-TiO2 applications, at 30?C, evaporated average ?(12) PAH amounts were 2.91?ng/m(3) and 6.59?ng/m(3), respectively.Publication Performance evaluation of diethylamine to the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from polluted soils with sunlight(Taylor, 2021-02-07) Eker, Gizem; Şengül, Burcu; Cindoruk, Sabahattin Sıddık; EKER ŞANLI, GİZEM; ŞENGÜL, BURCU; CİNDORUK, SABAHATTİN SIDDIK; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Çevre Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0003-0877-402X; 0000-0001-7536-0332; AAZ-1166-2020; CNL-8702-2022; JRB-1424-2023; GBB-7012-2022In the present study, the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) compounds from contaminated soil with solar radiation was investigated. In this context, the effect of diethylamine (DEA) as a photo-sensitizer on the photodegradation of PAH was examined, and the ring distributions of the PAHs were determined. DEA was added to samples at the doses of 1%, 10%, and 20% of dry weight of soil, and samples were kept in ambient air for 24 hours. Concentrations of sigma(12)PAH in soil samples were detected with Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometer (GC-MS) as 4382 ng/g dry matter (DM). The total PAH content of the soil decreased by 45% in the presence of sunlight without using DEA. sigma 12PAH removal efficiency was at the maximum level of 76% with the addition of 1% DEA to the soil. The increase in the dose of DEA adversely affected the PAH elimination process, and minimum removal ratio (32%) was obtained in the sample containing 20% DEA. The use of DEA has contributed to the elimination of most 3-ring PAH species. Heavy species, 5-6 ring compounds, have not been removed in the presence of sunlight.
