Publication Arbuscular mycorrhizae inoculation of einkorn wheat affects fatty acid, nutrient and mineral concentrations(South African Journal of Animal Sciences, 2020-01-01) Ayasan, Tugay; Esen, Selim; Esen, Vasfiye Kader; Eseceli, Hüseyin; Cabi, Evren; Esen, Vasfiye Kader; 0000-0003-0661-7688; GVT-2587-2022The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) inoculation, which was administered to increase the quality of einkorn wheat in its fatty acid composition, quality and mineral concentration. Wheat grown from AM inoculated seed (AM+) had increased the dry matter (DM), iron (Fe), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), especially oleic acid, and alpha-linolenic acid, and cis-5,-8,-11,-14, and cis-17 eicosapentaenoic acid from polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (P <0.05), but decreased crude ash (CA), potassium (K), and total saturated fatty acids (UFA), especially myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and monounsaturated fatty acids, especially cis-palmitoleic acid, cis-10-heptadecenoic acid, cis-11 eicosenoic acid, erucic acid, and linoleic acid (P <0.05) compared with einkorn wheat grown from noninoculated seed (AM-). Crude protein (CP) content ranged from 10.56% to 10.68%, and ether extract (EE) content varied between 2.03% and 2.41%, neither of which was significantly different between treatments. Significant increases were observed in UFA, and in the ratios of UFA to SFA and PUFA to SFA in AM+ compared with AM-.Item Bazı koyun ırklarında GDF-8, GH ve FABP4 gen varyasyonlarının et verim ve kalitesine etkilerinin araştırılması(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2022-07-01) Esen, Vasfiye Kader; Elmacı, Cengiz; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Zootekni Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0003-0661-7688Bu tezde, GDF-8 (Büyüme Farklılaşma Faktörü-8), GH (Büyüme Homonu) ve FABP4 (Yağ Asidi Bağlayıcı Protein 4) genlerinin Kıvırcık, Karacabey Merinosu, Bandırma, Hampshire x Merinos ve Ramlıç koyunlarındaki varyasyonu ve kuzu büyüme özellikleri, karkas et verimi ile kalitesine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Araştırma materyali olarak 230 baş kuzu kullanılmıştır. GDF-8 geni 3’UTR bölgesinde 4 nükleotid değişimi; GH 4. Ekzonda 7 nükleotid ve 3 amino asit değişimi; GH 5. Ekzonda 2 delesyon, 12 nükleotid ve 3 amino asit değişimi, FABP4 2.Ekzon-2.İntron bölgesinde 13 nükleotid ve 4 amino asit değişimi; FABP4 3.Ekzon-3.İntron bölgesinde 8 nükleotid ve 2 amino asit değişimi belirlenmiştir. GH 4. ve 5. Ekzon ile FABP4 2. ve 3. Ekzon polimorfizmlerinin bazı vücut ölçülerine etkisi önemli bulunmuştur (p<0,05). GDF-8, GH 4. ve 5. Ekzon ile FABP4 3. Ekzon polimorfizmlerinin bazı ultrasonografik MLD ölçülerine etkisi önemli bulunmuştur (p<0,05). GDF-8, GH 4. Ekzon, FABP4 2. ve 3. Ekzon polimorfizmlerinin bazı karkas kesim özelliklerine etkisi önemli bulunmuştur. GH 4. ve 5. Ekzon polimorfizmlerinin bazı et rengi değerlerlerine önemli etkisi bulunmuştur. FABP4 3. Item Slaughter and carcass characteristics of Kivircik, Karacabey Merino, Ramlic, German Black-Head Mutton x Kivircik and Hampshire Down x Merino crossbreed lambs reared under intensive conditions(TÜBİTAK, 2020) Esen, Vasfiye Kader; Esen, Selim; Karadağ, Orhan; Önenç, Alper; Elmacı, Cengiz; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Zootekni Bölümü.; 0000-0003-4819-0221; V-7882-2019; 6602597697This study aimed to determine the slaughter and carcass characteristics of five different meat-type lambs reared under intensive husbandry conditions. For this purpose, a total of 202 lambs-Kivircik (K, n = 51), Karacabey Merino (KM, n = 47), Ramlic (R, n = 28), German Black-Head Mutton x Kivircik (GBK, n = 49), and Hampshire Down x Merino crossbreed (HM, n = 27)-were used to evaluate rearing performance. At the end of the rearing period, 10 male lambs of each breed were randomly selected to investigate slaughter and carcass characteristics. All lambs were housed in a single flock until the slaughtering period. An average of 600 g/lamb of concentrate feed, 100 g/lamb of alfalfa hay, and 300 g/lamb of vetches-wheat mixtures hay per day were given with ad libitum fresh water. While the average daily gain (ADG) of female K, KM, R, GBK, and HM lambs was 94.4, 165.2, 142.2, 109.0, and 160.0 g (P < 0.001); the male lambs' ADG was 167.3, 240.4, 180.5, 176.0, and 246.6 g, respectively (P < 0.001). Cold carcass weights of lambs in breeds were 19.12, 21.76, 16.80, 20.71, and 20.80 kg (P < 0.001); cold dressing percentages (CDP) were 47.39%, 47.55%, 44.86%, 47.41%, and 45.61% in K, KM, R, GBK, and HM, respectively (P < 0.01). It is concluded that Merino crossbreeds (KM and HM) had significantly more ADG and total weight gain when compared to K, R, and GBK. On the other hand, KM and GBK had higher CDP value while HM came forward for the loin eye area.Publication The estimation of live weight from body measurements in different meat-type lambs(Galenos Yayınevi, 2021-01-01) Esen, Vasfiye Kader; Elmacı, Cengiz; ELMACI, CENGİZ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Zootekni Bölümü.; 0000-0003-4819-0221 ; DWS-5803-2022The present study aimed to analyze the live weight (LW) and some body measurements to estimate the LW of lambs in five different meat-type sheep breeds reared in the same flock under intensive conditions. A total of 202 head of lambs, including both genders of Kivircik (K), Bandirma (B), Karacabey Merino (KM), Hampshire Down x Merino crossbreed (HM), and Ramlic (R), were conducted in this study. Birth weights ranged between 3.94-5.07 kg in those breeds and were affected significantly by breed and birth types (P<0.001). The effect of sex was clearly seen with the weaning period; males lambs were 2.61 kg heavier than female lambs (P<0.001). The importance of breed differences on chest circumference (CC) increased as the lambs grew older. On the other hand, sex had a significant effect on all body measurements at the pre- and post-weaning period (P<0.01 and P<0.001); however, did not on body length (BL) at the pre-weaning period (P>0.05). In contrast, the importance of birth type on BL and CC decreased as the lambs grew older (P>0.05). The results of regressing LW and body measurements show that LW was very highly (P<0.001) correlated with body measurements (r=0.682-0.892). The highest correlations were observed between LW and CC (r=0.802-0.892) in B, KM, and R lambs. These results suggest that using body measurements as a correction factor has a great benefit in those breeds, such as withers height and CC are used to estimate LW in KM and R lambs, effectively.
