Item The effects of elastane yarn type and fabric density on sewing needle penetration forces and seam damage of PET/elastane woven fabrics(Inst Chemical Fibres, 2007) Gürarda, Ayça; Meriç, Binnaz Kaplangiray; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; AAD-9210-2019; 35609709500; 14919630800This paper presents the effects of elastane yarn type and fabric density on the seam performance of PET/ elastane woven fabrics. In this study, 12 different weft stretched fabrics were woven with 2 different weft yarns, 2 different weave types and 3 different weft densities. The weft and warp yarns of the weft stretched fabrics were polyester-elastane covered yarn and polyester yarn, respectively. Air-covered and twisted elastane weft yarns were used at twill and plain fabrics. Needle penetration forces were determined on an L&M Sewability tester for seam performance. Besides this, "needle damage index" was calculated for seam damage. The values of the needle penetration forces were between 64 cN and 370 cN and the needle damage index values were between 18% and 73%. Elastane yarn type and fabric density had significant effects on the needle penetration force. Photographs were taken with an optical microscope to show the seam damage during sewing.Item The effects of lubricants on the stiffness of sewing threads(Ege Üniversitesi, 2011) Gürarda, Ayça; Kaplangiray, Binnaz Meriç; Kanık, Mehmet; Yükseltan, Esra; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 35609709500; 55102796200; 6602352034; 55103172700This paper reports an experimental investigation into the effects of lubricants on the stiffness of sewing threads. In this work, three types of sewing threads, polyester-spun, core-spun (polyester/polyester) and core-spun (polyester/cotton) having the same ticket number at different colours (white, grey and black) were used. Three different lubricant types and lubricant feeding rates (0,5-1-2 g/min) were applied to these sewing threads. Therefore 81 different sewing threads were obtained. The aim of this study is to see the effects of the lubricants on the stiffness of sewing thread. Sewing threads with very high bending length and flexural rigidity values may lead to sewing problems like seam pucker as they too stiff to be manipulated and controlled. To investigate the stiffness of a sewing thread bending length must be obtained. In this work a stiffness tester was used to measure the bending length of sewing thread. In this study, it was found when lubricant feeding rate increase on the sewing thread bending length and stiffness decreased. It was also found lubricant type is very important on the stiffness of sewing thread.Item The effects of seam parameters on the stiffness of woven fabrics(Ege Üniversitesi, 2009) Gürarda, Ayça; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 35609709500This paper presents a study of the effects of seam parameters on the stiffness of woven fabrics with vertical plain seams. To investigate the stiffness of a sewn fabric, bending length and flexural rigidity must be obtained. In this study, the effects of seam parameters such as sewing thread size, stitch density and seam allowance on bending behaviour were evaluated. Cantilever test was used to determine the relationships between the bending properties and seam parameters of the sewn fabrics, It was found when sewing thread size, stitch density and seam allowance of a vertical plain seam on the cotton woven fabric increased, bending length, flexural rigidity and stiffness of fabric also increased. Therefore there is necessity to optimize the seam parameters such as sewing thread size, stitch density and seam allowance in order to decrease the stiffness of the fabric on the garment. The fabrics with the seams with 3 stitch/cm and 2 mm seam allowance and sewing thread with 140 ticket number had lower flexural rigidity and stiffness.Item The effects of sewing thread properties on the needle thread tension in an industrial sewing machine(E.U. Printing and Publishing House, 2014-03) Koncer, Pınar; Gürarda, Ayça; Kaplangiray, Binnaz Meriç; Kanık, M.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 56199768400; 35609709500; 55102796200; 6602352034This paper presents the measurement of the needle thread tension in an industrial sewing machine using various sewing threads. In this work, three types of sewing threads, air-jet textured (PET), core-spun (PET/PET) and (PET)-spun were used. Two lubricant types and two lubricant feeding rates were applied to these sewing threads. The results of this research show that the sewing thread type, lubricant type and lubricant feeding rate have important effects on the tension of the needle thread. The tension values were lowest for all of the sewing thread types using a paraffin-based lubricant. When paraffin wax was used in the lubricant the tension decreased slightly. Paraffin-based lubricants with 1 g/min lubricant feeding rate are suitable for sewing threads to achieve the lowest needle thread tension.Item The effects of silicone and pre-fixation temperature on the elastic properties of cotton/elastane woven fabrics(Amer Assoc Textile Chemists Colorists-AATCC, 2005-09) Gürarda, Ayça; Meriç, Binnaz; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 35609709500; 14919630800This paper presents the effects of silicone and pre-fixation temperature on the elastic properties of cotton/elastane woven fabrics, with nylon/elastane air-covered yarn used as weft yarn and cotton yarn used as warp yarn. Three fabric types with three different elastane weft yarn draw ratios were used as experimental samples. The pre-fixation process was applied to all three fabrics at two different temperatures. After finishing, half of the samples were treated with silicone and the other half were only washed. Fabric stretch and fabric growth after a specified extension was determined as elastic properties for weft stretch woven fabrics. The fabric stretch values were between 14-18% and fabric growth or recovery after a specified extension after 30 min were between 0.7-0.9%.Item The effects of various lubricants on the friction properties of sewing threads(Sage Publications, 2013-07) Gürarda, Ayça; Yükseltan, Esra; Kaplangìray, Binnaz Meriç; Kanik, Mehmet; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 35609709500; 55103172700; 55102796200; 6602352034This paper describes an experimental investigation into the effects of different types and amounts of lubricants on the friction properties of sewing threads. In this work, four types of sewing threads, CO, PET-spun, core-spun (PET/PET) and core-spun (PET/CO) were used. Three different lubricant types and lubricant feeding rates (0.5, 1 and 2g/min) were applied to the sewing threads. The results of the research show that the type and amount of lubricant have important effects on the friction of the sewing threads. The friction coefficient values of all sewing thread types with paraffin-based lubricant were the lowest among the lubricants. As the amount of paraffin wax in the lubricants increased, the fiber/metal friction forces slightly decreased. To obtain the lowest friction coefficient, a 0.5g/min lubricant feeding rate and a 2.5-3% lubricant amount should be used for sewing threads. Item Influence of women’s dress woven fabric structure on bending and drapability properties(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2017-04-11) Gürarda, Ayça; Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.Good tailorability is a required property for clothing manufacturers. According to the results, a negative correlation was observed between weight, thickness, cover factor and air permeability of the fabrics. A positive correlation was observed between weight, thickness, cover factor and thermal conductivity of the fabric samples. A positive correlation was observed between weight, cover factor and thermal absorptivity of the fabric samples. Also positive correlations were observed between thickness- thermal resistance and thickness- thermal diffusivity of the fabric samples.Item Investigation of the effect of different structural parameters of cotton woven fabrics on their air permeability(IOP Publishing, 2017) Taştan, Özkan Esra; Akgün, Mine; Gürarda, Ayça; Ömeroǧlu, Sunay; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Mimarlık Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0002-1618-6562; AAM-7071-2020; AAG-9756-2021; AAM-3229-2020; 56417386900; 9839293900; 35609709500; 11339973900This study presents an investigation of the effect of different structural parameters of cotton woven fabrics on their air permeability. For this purpose, 24 fabric samples having different structural properties were obtained by using three different weave types (plain, 1/3 twill and 1/7 sateen), two different weft yarn counts (Ne 20/2 and Ne 70/2) and four different yarn twist levels (120, 360, 600, and 840 turns/m). Cotton Ne 50/1; 150 turns/m warp yarns and 40 threads/cm warp density were used in all fabric samples. The relationship between the fabrics structural parameters like weft yarn count, weave type, yarn twist number and air permeability behavior are investigated. It has been shown that the increase of yarn counts and yarn twist led to an increase in air permeability values of cotton woven fabrics. Also, cotton woven fabrics with 1/7 sateen weave have the maximum air permeability value; these fabrics are followed by the fabrics having weave types of plain and 1/3 twill in spite of high weft density.Item Investigation of the effect of fusible interlining on stiffness and drapability of woollen fabrics(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2020-03-10) Gürarda, Ayça; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0002-7317-8163Woollen fabric most popular tailored clothing material because of the fabric excellent and natural properties. In woollen garments, upper back, sleeve holes, collars, lapels, patch and welt pockets, and sleeve cuffs are the areas to apply interlining for more rigid appearance. Interlining is a layer fabric sticked on the fabrics of the garment to give form and to improve stiffness of garment. In this study, the effect of fusible interlining on stiffness and drapability of woollen woven fabrics with different structural properties were investigated. For this purpose, eight woollen woven fabric samples having different structural properties were obtained. Same kind of fusible interlining applied all of these fabric samples. Therefore, woollen fabric samples without fusible interlining and with fusible interlining were obtained. The results showed that the fabric weigth, cover factor and weave structure of woollen woven fabrics effect fabric stiffness and drapability. All woollen fabrics with fusible interlining had significantly higher stiffness and drape coefficient values than woollen fabrics without fusible interlining.Publication Investigation of the effects of different bias angles of stitching on seam performance of wool suits(Walter de Gruyter, 2019-12-01) Öztaş, Hande; Gürarda, Ayça; Öztaş, Hande; GÜRARDA, AYÇA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; JIF-8505-2023; CTB-5944-2022Wool suits are always preferred due to their warmth retention in cool weather, comfort, and aesthetic features. Seams are very important for the quality of wool suits. The tensile characteristics of seamed fabric change with the change of fabric bias angle. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different seam angles with various stitch densities on the seam strength and the seam breaking extension of wool suit stitches. In this study, seam strength and seam-breaking elongation at different bias angles were investigated for the stitches of trousers and jackets of wool suits. As is known, in the production of trousers and jackets, the seams are applied not only in the direction of the weft and warp but also in the different bias angles at the crotch area and arm hole seams. Six wool fabrics with different structural properties were chosen as experimental samples. Fabrics were cut at 0 degrees, 30 degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees, and 90 degrees angles and then sewn with three different stitch densities (3, 4, and 5 stitches/cm ), with lockstitch stitch type for each fabric angle. Therefore, 90 differently seamed fabric samples were prepared. The results indicated that seams prepared with 0 degrees,45 degrees and 90 degrees bias angles give the highest seam strength and that 30 degrees, 45 degrees, and 60 degrees bias angles give the highest seam-breaking elongation values all over the samples. Seams prepared with 30 degrees and 60 degrees bias angles give the lowest seam strength, and 0 degrees and 90 degrees bias angles give the lowest seam-breaking elongation values all over the samples.Item Investigation of the seam performance of PET/nyton-elastane woven fabrics(Sage Publications, 2008-01) Gürarda, Ayça; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 35609709500This paper presents an experimental study of the seam performance of PET/nylon-elastane woven fabrics.
