In this article optical whiteners, physical whitening agents are examined. Examples for nucleating agents and optical whiteners are given. Physical whitening agents are examined in two groups as blueing materials and fluorescent brighteners. Their regions in the spectrum are given. On the other hand fluorescent brighteners are classified as anionic, cationic and diapers and also they are explained. Asa result the criteria for selecting a brightener are given.
