Item Alimentary lymphoma in a cat(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2018-05-18) Karakuş, Adil Ömer; Kasap, Sevim; Mutlu, Ayşe Meriç; Tavus, Melike Akbala; Salcı, Hakan; Sönmez, Gürsel; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi.Lymphoma is the most common feline malignant tumor, and the alimentary form is the most common seen form. Alimentary form in the cat typically involves lesions of the small intestine, stomach, mesenteric lymph nodes, and liver. The disease is often reported in cats between 1 and 20 (mean 13 years) years. A 3-year-old domestic male cat was admitted to Uludağ University Animal Hospital due to chronic weight loss, loss of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting traced back to 15 days. Abdominal ultrasonography was performed and a large solid mass was spotted in the cranial abdomen. During the treatment, the cat developed respiratory stress, shock and died 2 days after. In light of the clinical symptoms, ultrasonography, necropsy and histopathological findings; small-cell-alimentary lymphoma was diagnosed for the 3-year-old cat. It can be interpreted that small cell (lymphocytic) alimentary lymphoma is seen rarely in younger cats and seldomItem Effect Of tamoxifen treatment on the epidermal growth factor receptor expression ın the mouse ovarian tissue(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2018-07-03) Asmaz, Ender Deniz; Zık, Berrin; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of Tamoxifen (TAM) treatment on epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression in the pubertal mice ovary. In this study, 80 female mice (8 week-old) were used. Animals divided four groups; non-injected (control A), injected with TAM’s vehicle solution (control B). The mice in groups TAM 0.5 and TAM 1.5 were treated with TAM at a dose 0.5 and 1.5 mg/mouse/day respectively. TAM was dissolved with 10% ethanol: 90% corn oil. Mice were given daily subcutaneously injections for 5 days. Ovarian sections were immunostained with EGFR antibody and trichrome staining for examine the general structure. We observed that follicular atresia was increased, follicular cysts were formed in stroma, and interstitial cells were increased with TAM dose treatment. In the present study, there were no significant differences in the EGFR expression in mouse ovary of all groups. EGFR expression was not determined in the granulosa cells. While strong EGFR immunoreaction was observed in the interstitial cells and oocyte cytoplasm, weak EGFR immunoreactions was observed in theca cells of follicles.Item Genotype frequency of fecxb (belclare) mutation of bmp15 gene in chios (sakiz) sheep(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2018-08-22) Dinçel, Deniz; Ardıçlı, Sena; Balcı, Faruk; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi.Ovulation rate and litter size, varies between breeds or individulas who belong to the same breed, are evaluated as fertility traits. Fertility traits are important for economic values in animal breeding. However these traits exhibit only in females and they are determined in the later stages of lifes. Hence the genetic perspective is more effective way to confirm the fertility capacities early period of life time. Fecundity genes such as BMP15 regulate the fertility traits by increasing the ovulation rate due to the occuring mutations. Despite some prolific breed were investigated for FecXB mutation; the researches carried out to determine that mutation in Chios sheep breed are limited. The objective of the current study was to estimate the the genotype frequencies of FecXB mutation of BMP15 gene in prolific Chios sheep. We investigated the FecXB mutation by PCR-RFLP method in Chios sheep (n=77). According to result, the investigated Chios breed was found monomorphic for FecXB mutation. All individuals were digested by DdeI restriction enzyme and showed wild-type genotype and did not carry FecXB mutation nin present study. In conclusion it’s thought that the high prolificacy in Chios sheep may be based on another region of BMP15 gene or differ-ent major gene. Thus the effect of other major genes or regions/QTL’s should be investigated in future studies with a large number of animals.Item A morphometric study on the skull of the turkeys (meleagris gallopavo)(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2018-03-01) Yonkova, Penka; Yılmaz, Bestami; Süzer, Bayram; Serbest, Ayşe; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi. In this study, 80 turkey skulls (40 females and 40 males) were used. Turkeys slaughtered at the age of 128 days. The females had an average weight of 11.5 kg and the males had 19 kg. We measured 14 features and determined 6 indices on the skulls of turkeys. Our study focused on morphometric differences and comparison of determined features of those skulls for males and female turkeys. Correlations between all features and indices of the skulls were examined for each male and female group, separately. All morphometric measurements were significantly higher in male group. All indices except skull index and foramen magnum index were significantly higher in female group. These measurements showed that males have bigger skulls. Cranial index, facial index, index 1 and index 2 showed that males have narrower and longer skulls while the females have smaller and wider. According to foramen magnum index, foramen magnum of turkeys is slightly vertical oval. Also, ratio of skull length and width is similar for both sexes. This study is the morphometric evaluation of the skull in turkeys. Therefore, this study will lead to further studies on turkeys and other bird species
