Publication Determinants of adoption of mobile games: Extending UTAUT2 with trust and reward(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2023-06-07) Erdoğan, GörkemThis paper's goal is to investigate the variables influencing mobile gaming players' behavior intention based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology 2 (UTAUT2) model. The UTAUT2 model is expanded by adding variables, trust, and reward, in addition to the model’s variables. The behavior intention to adopt mobile game is used and usage behavior is taken as the dependent variable. A survey is conducted and a sample of 474 mobile game players in Turkey isanalyzed through structural equation modeling approach. The results indicate that reward has themost influential effect on behavior intention, followed by trust, price value, habit, social influence, performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, and effort expectancy. Besides, behavior intention has a significant positive effect on the usage behavior. The findings of theresearch fill the gap in existing literature on mobile games as well as provide valuable base for forthcoming research findings in mobile games.Publication From Gestalt to pattern in post-war American aesthetic theory: The works of Rudolf Arnheim and György Kepes(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2023-03-16) Üstün, BerkayThe following article is an inquiry into the aesthetic valences of the concept of pattern as informedby the contrasting frameworks of Gestalt psychology and information theory. On the trail of itsobject, it evokes the historical context of the Post-War American aesthetic theory and technologicalculture and enters into a critical dialogue with texts by its main interlocutors Rudolf Arnheim andGyörgy Kepes. The article demonstrates that both theorists grapple with the challenges issued byadvances in computation and the epistemological implications of visions of data processing (evenmachine learning research) ascendant in their time. The discussion has a philosophical orientationin paying particular attention to matters of abstraction underlying patterns, the temporality ofpattern formation, and the dimension of subjectivity; it highlights the fundamental oppositionsbetween discrete and holistic coding, as well as quality and quantity. Finally, in its departure fromKepes’s intervention in the relationship between science and art, the article situates the question ofpattern in the context of the history of science, putting it in contact with influential treatments ofobjectivity in the discourse of Lorraine Daston and Peter Galison, but more critically, in the workof Donna Haraway.Publication Subverting the Hebrew myth: Feminine writing in Anita Diamant’s The Red Tent(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2023-03-25) Çeşmeci, Sevilay YavuzAnita Diamant’s first novel The Red Tent (1997) retells the story of Dinah, Jacob’s and Leah’s daughter, Joseph’s sister in the Genesis chapter of the Old Testament. In this revised story, Diamantcreates Dinah, the silenced woman of the Old Testament, as the narrator of the novel. Weaving adifferent narrative than the Hebrew myth, the narrator tries to subvert hierarchical structures of phallogocentrism by focusing on women’s bodies, femininity, and sexual power. This study, basingits argument on post-structuralist feminist theory, examines how patriarchal ideology and discourseare challenged through female language and ‘feminine writing’. The analysis of the rewritten textreveals that feminine writing frees the female body and female sexuality from the authority ofandrocentric ideology. Additionally, the textual strategies, used by Diamant to deconstruct the patriarchal order and to create a gynocentric myth, present alternative definitions of female identity.Publication The evolution of Western spirituality: From Ancient Greece and Rome to contemporary practices(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2023-04-08) Karakaya, TakyettinThis article provides a comprehensive overview of the history of spirituality in the Western world, examining its evolution from ancient Greece and Rome to contemporary practices.
