Abstract
Born in Istanbul in 1887, Tahsin Nahit spent most of his childhood and youth in Büyükada, which occupied a large place in his world of poetry, dreams and emotions. The fact that he uses the Islands as a background in most of his poems reveals how important the influence of the Island was on Tahsin Nahit. Watching the moonlight from the pine trees at night on Büyükada, wandering around the island’s shores and imagining white fairies swimming in the sea, were a significant source of inspiration for her poetry. Ada’s role not only in his art but also in his life is so great that his daughter, Mina Urgan, mentions in her memoirs the impact of being an Adalar poet on her father’s marriage. As Halid Fahri Ozansoy stated after his death, Büyükada, which he loved very much, became the eternal resting place of this young poet. In this article, based on the poems of Tahsin Nahit, known as the poet of the Islands in Turkish literature, we will try to determine how the Island is reflected in his poems.
