Abstract
Sonuç olarak ardıç katranı dumanı Varroa destructor’a karşı etkisiz bulunmuştur.
The goal of this study was whether juniper tar smoke that some beekeepers use for Varroa destructor control was effective or not. For this study 9 colonies of the local subspecies Apis mellifera anatoliaca were used. Nine Langstroth type hives were divided in two groups (5 treatment and 4 control colonies). Twenty milliliters of juniper tar was poured on plain burning cardboard in a smoker and this smoke was applied to five hives. Only burning cardboard smoke was applied to four control hives. Natural mite fall, mite fall after smoke application (treatment or control), and mite fall after flumethrineTM application were added to determine total mite fall for colonies. The efficacy of treatments were calculated by dividing the mite fall after treatment to total mite fall. According to this calculation, the effectiveness of juniper tar smoke (treatment) and cardboard smoke (control) means were % 3.61 (S.d.2.10), and %2.64 (S.d.1.70) respectively. No significant difference was found (analysis of variance, P>0.05) between control and treatment groups. Consequently, juniper tar smoke was considered uneffective for Varroa control.
