Abstract
Arianism has been the biggest religous movement in the discussion of the nature of Jesus, threatening the Orthodox church from within. For the Islamic world, it has been an interesting subject because of its antitirinitarian attitude. However, the narratives about Arianism did not take much place in the works of Muslim authors. This study deals with the matters of what and how much Muslim scholars of the classical age knew about Arius and his theology, how much they could learn about Arianism and what wrote about it. It also deals with the kind of sources whether people or works of Muslim authors referred about Arianism. The works of the Muslim authors compared with early Arian documents such as Arius’ writings, the decisions of the councils where Arian Theology was the subject of discussion, and the informations about the subject in the early church historical works. We studied works of nine of the classical period Muslim authors about Arius and Arianism. It is understood that although the classical period Muslim authors gave correct information about Arius’ conception of Jesus, they could not reach the sources about the different subgroup of Arians and disputations with each other, the power of the Arianism in the ages of Roman Empire and Gothic Kingdoms.
