Abstract
This work has been conducted at laboratory to determine responses of some hard wheat genotypes to salt stress at germination period. Hard wheat genotypes were obtained from promising genotypes improved by inbreeding and adaptation studies conducted at Crop Field Department of Agriculture Faculty, Uludag University. Wheat variety Gediz-75 as a check and nine lines obtained from hybridization of Sham1 x Japiga, Japiga x Gediz75-(44), Sham1 x Santa, Bintepe x Gediz75(12), Ambral x Çakmak-79(30), Sham1 x Yavoras-12, Ambral x Çakmak-79(26), Gediz-75 x Çakmak-79(33) and Ambral x Çakmak-79(36) and five levels of NaCl (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mM) were used. The study was designed in a Randomized Complete Plot with two factors and three replications. The parameter examined in the experiment were water intake rate of seeds at twelfth and twenty-fourth hours, germination rate, plumula length, radicle length, dry weights of plumula and radicle. The results obtained indicated that salt treatments affected negatively all of the parameters examined. The responses of genotypes to salt stress were different in respect of all parameters expect radicle dry weight. Genotype x salt interaction was significant only for water intake rate of seed at twenty-fourth hour and germination rate. The responses of Japiga x Gediz75 (44), and Sham1 x Santa lines were more resistant to salt stress (reduction of germination rate are 13 % and 15 % at 200 mM NaCl, respectivelly) than the other genotypes examined at germination stage.
