Abstract
Yaşlı nüfusun giderek artmasına paralel olarak bu yaş grubunda uygulanan cerrahi işlemlerin sayısı da giderek artmakta ve bu durum yeterlilik ya da karar verme kapasitesi sorununu daha çok tartışılır hale getirmektedir. Yaşlı hastalarda cerrahi tedavi için alınan aydınlatılmış onam işleminde çeşitli zorluklar yaşanmaktadır. İletişimi bozabilen bazı fiziksel yetersizlikler (işitme kaybı gibi) ve yaşla birlikte artan eşlik eden hastalıklar kavramayı bozabilmektedir. Bu durumda, hastanın onamı alınırken, aydınlatılmış onam vermeye yeterli olup olmadığı önemli bir soru haline gelmektedir. Hekim hasta ilişkisinde etik ilkeler, ancak yeterli hastanın kendisine ne yapılıp yapılamayacağına karar verme hakkına sahip olduğunu vurgular. Bu makalede kalça kırıklı yaşlı bir hasta ve hastanın karar verme kapasitesinin değerlendirilmesindeki etik sorunlar analiz edilmektedir
With the increased population of aging people, the number of surgeries employed on this age group also increases and as a result, the competency or decision-making capacity has become a question of debate. Various difficulties have been emerged for the informed consent process of the treatment of elderly patients. There may be physical failings, such as hearing loss, which disrupt the communication and together with the addition of concomitant diseases of the older age can impair comprehension. In such situations, to obtain consent from the patient becomes an important question, whether the patient is capable of giving informed consent or not. The ethical principles of the physician-patient relationship emphasize the right of a patient with decision-making capacity to decide what will or will not be done to him/her.
