Abstract
This study has been conducted to determine the approaches of nursing students to enhanced recovery applications after surgery. This descriptive and cross-sectional research has been conducted between November 2021 and March 2022. The study has been carried out with 199 students studying at Bursa Uludağ University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing. Data of the study, to be in accordance with the COVID-19 pandemic rules has been collected via Google Forms, by using the "Approaches to Enhanced Recovery Practices After Surgery Survey". Statistical analysis of the data has been done using SPSS 24 statistical package program. Means, percentile distributions, Mann-Whitney U, Chi-Square tests and crosstabs were used to evaluate the data. 76.9% (n=153) of the participants were found to be female, 62.3% (n=124) of participants have been found to have a grade point average (GPA) between 3.00-4.00 and 78.4% (n=156) of participants have been graduated from Qualified high schools. The general correct answer level of the survey questions used in the study was determined as 62.17%. It has been observed that students who have a high GPA and have been graduated from Qualified high schools have a higher correct answer average. It was determined that the questions with the highest awareness were part of "Early Mobilization" and "Pain Management" ERAS components, while the questions with the lowest awareness were part of "Catheter and Drain Use", "Early Mobilization" and "Hypothermia" elements. A statistically significant relationship was found between the participants' gender, general academic grade point average and high school groups, and whether their answers were compatible with ERAS or not. As a result, it was determined that the answers of the nursing students were at a slightly high level in accordance with ERAS applications. In order to raise awareness of nurse students about evidence-based practices, we recommend the implementation of different activities/programmes outside the curriculum.
