Abstract
The muscles of the two genetically related lambs were studied histochemically for their lipid, glycogene and A TP as e activities in addi tion to microscopical comparisons. The diorneters of muscle fibers in pri mary bundles were measured micrometrically and their biometrical ave rages were calculated statistically. The resulting observations were as fol lows: The textures of muscles of Kıvırcık lambs were finer than those of the Karacabey Merino lambs. There was more lipid depositian in the endo, and perimysium of Kıvırcık lambs muscles. Similarly more glycogene was fowıd in the cytoplasm of Kıvırcık lambs nıuscle eells. The average diameters of nıuscle fibers were smaller than Merino lambs. The nıuscle cells of both lanıb strains were containing enough lipid droplets to absorb and retain reasonably high anıounts of eellular water in their cytoso/e. According to the A TPase activities there were three types of muscle eells that might be classified as "fast", "slow" and "intennediate" in both muscles of both breeds.
