Abstract
To find out the effects of early castration on the fattening performance, 14 female, 12 male and 10 castrated kids separetaly penned and fed adlibitum starting from 15th week up to end to of 43rd weeks after birth. Animals were weighed every two weeks. The mean live weights at 15th week were 16.96, 19.55 and 19.14 and 43rd week were 38.80, 39.40 and 44.61 kg in females, males and castrates respectively. According to statistical analyses castrates were significantly heavier than both females and males. But there was no significant difference between males and females. Mean daily gain during the fattenıng period were 109.3, 100.1 and 128.1 g in females males and castrates respectively. The difference between castrates and females and between castrates and males were statistically significant (P < 0.05 and p < 0.01) , while the difference between males and females was not significant. Starting from the 26th week, in which first signals of reproductıue function in males were observed, to the end of fattening period , slowing down of daily weight gain was observed when compared with the daily gain in the period between 15th - 26th weeks. There were 85.1 g in males and 49.1 g in castrates which were found significant (P < 0.01). Between these two periods the above mentioned slowing down was not observed in females.
