Abstract
Nicholas Malebranche (1638-1715) Kartezyen filozofların en önemlilerinden birisidir. O. Descartes (1695-1650)'ın töz kuramının kimi güçlüklerini aşmak için bir metafizik sistem geliştirmiştir. Bilgi kuramında, Aziz Augustinus (354– 430)'un öncülüğünü yaptığı, bilginin bütünüyle "idealarda" olduğu görüşünü savunan akıma tabi olan Malebranche'a göre bilgi, değişken olan duyumlardan, değil. değişmez ve zorunlu olan "idealar"dan gelmiştir. İdeaların kaynağı da ne duyular ne de duyular gibi değişkenlik gösteren anlık olabilir. O halde "idealar". ezeli ve zorunlu olan Tanrı'dadırlar ve O'ndan gelmektedirler. Malebranche'a göre neden ile sonuç arasında zorunlu bir bağlantı yoktur. Cisimsel bir neden hakiki bir neden değildir. Hakiki neden ancak Tanrı'dır.
Nicholas Malebranche (1638-1715) is one of the most famous Cartesian philosophers. He developed a metaphysical system to overcome some of the difficulties in Descartes's (1695-1650) theory of substance. In regard to the problem of knowledge, Malebranche. following the teaching of Saint Augustine the entire Augustinian current, affirms that validity of knowledge rests entirely in the idea. According to Malebranche "Ideas", then, are necessary and immutable. for they cannot come from sense knowledge, which is contingent and mutable. Nor can they come from the intellect, for first of all the intellect is contingent. Hence ideas are eternal and necessary exemplars in God, and it is in God. According to Malebranche it is clear that there is no necessary connection in cause and effect. A cause material is not true cause and the only true cause is God.
