Abstract
Richard Showstack tarafından yazılan bu makalede vurgulanmak istenen yabancı dil öğretiminde öğretmen ve öğrenciye düşen sorumluluklar ve bunların nasıl paylaşılacağıdır. Yazar konuya açıklık getirmek amacıyla okuyuculara on kuraldan oluşan bir liste sunmaktadır. Bunlar öğretmen ve öğrencinin dil öğrenme sürecine doğru bir şekilde yaklaşmasını saglayacak türdendir. Önerilen bu kurallar aracılığı ile öğrencileri öğrenmek için egitmek mümkün olacaktır. Böylece daha bilinçli ve etkin bir dil öğretimi düş olmaktan çıkıp gerçege dönüşecektir.
In this article, the main emphasis is put not only on the students who aim at learning a foreign language but also the teachers who are responsible for teaching it by using contemporary methods and materials. As an experienced educationalist Richard Showstack points out that there are ten different rules concerning both sides, which make learning and teaching more effective and realistic. He believes sincerely that unless foreign language teachers and and learners are ready to adopt a new outlook upon which modem style of teaching is based and inclined to change old-fashioned methods, teaching a second language with never improve or fulfil the needs of learners or teachers, all of whom are now eager to contribute to a contemporary training. He also stresses the importance of sharing mutual responsibilities and advises both learners and teachers to learn how to approach language training consciously.
