Abstract
An outbreak with the clinical symptoms of shieviring, incoordination, torticollis and paralyses was noticed among two flocks on a chicken farm in Bursa. Upon the otopsies, symmetrical or asymetrical grayish-white spots with a diameter of 1-3 mm, were observed in the central nervous system, especially more frequent in the cortex of hemisfers. There were no significant lesions in visceral organs. Histopathologically, perivascular lymphocytic infiltrations, gliosis, chromatolysis and neuronal necrosis were readily detectable. Peculiar lymphocytic hyperplasiae and infiltrations were noted in the regioner lymph nodes of pancreas. Bacteriological, mycological and serological tests applied for differential diagnosis gave negative results. Inoculations to the susceptible one-day-old chicks produced lesions similar to those of the main disease seen in the flocks. The negative results from antibiotherapy and vitamin E administration, and the sudden outbreak and death of this epidemic in a month-old chicks with 10 % mortality were typical for Avian encephalomyelitis that is also known as Epidemic tremor in Turkey.
