Abstract
The westernization movements in the Ottoman Empire had started in the Tanzimat period. Besides the Ottoman-Russian wars, which occurred during the progression leading up to this period, foreign political developments running along the French Revolution, the Greek Rebel and Mehmet Ali Paşa Rebel were the effective incidents that gave a shape to this period. Young Ottomans movement had formed the beginning of occidental freedom movements in the history of the Ottoman Empire. Young Turks movement and Constitution of Union and Progress had followed the Young Ottoman movement consecutively. The most important common point of these movements was the issue of saving the country. Although this issue which was needed to be solved out immediately had obstructed the intellectuals to find the opportunity to examine the ideology and political ideas, all the efforts through the way to the westernization had provided a change in the mentality of the Ottoman intellectuals. The progression that had started in the period of Ottoman Empire had reached the peak with the Republic revolution realized by the intellectuals that are raised through this period as well.
