Abstract
Prevention Of Sludge Bulking Occurrence In Activated Sludge Processes By The Usage Of Aerobic Selectors Sludge bulking can be an important problem in acıivated sludge processes (ASP); it may affect the water quality, it may cause odor problem and it may cause bulking problems in anaerobic sludge digesters. This article is reLated to prevent sludge bulking from ASP by the usage of aerobic selectors. For this purpose two systems were run. These systems were classic ASP and selector ASP. Both of them were fed with synthetic wastewater continuously. Aerobic selectors were consisted of four small aeration basins and they were added in front of activated sludge system. Zoogloeal colonies, which have higher affinity for sett/ing, were dominated. Unlike the classic ASP, the selector ASP did not show sludge bulking tendency and it gave good results in terms of removing chemical oxygen (COD) and total suspended matter (TSP).
