Abstract
Rumelia has been home for Turks for over five centuries. No small amount of blood was shed during both the conquest of Rumelia and her loss. Thus, Rumelia has become a material for literature, with her precious experiences and stories. In prose and in verse many works were written about the Turkish presence in Rumelia. The reign of Turks in that area and the sorrows of Balkans Turks during the tragedy of the loss of Rumelia have become subject for these works. Skopje had been under Turkish rule for five hundred and twenty years. It was an important stronghold; its name is etched into collective memory. This city has been an inspiration for poems as well as being for novels and travel writings. In this study, it is aimed to determine how Skopje is depicted in Modern Turkish poetry in terms of setting - memory relation.
