Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate relationship between liver damage and biochemical blood parameters in sheep. Kıvırcık sheep were used as research materials and their blood and liver samples were collected during slaughter. 100 sheep were examined and 84 of them had parasite infection (E. granulosus, D. dentriticum or both). In the livers of them, different severities of hyperemia, haemorrhagia, lipid degeneration, necrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration, hyperplasie of ducts and duct's epithelia, periportal fibrosis and cirrhosis were determined as histopathological findings. Sheep with severe liver damage were chosen among them and biochemical blood parameters were measured. No differences were determined among biochemical blood parameters of sheep with E. granulosus, D. dentriticum or both. The sheep with parasite infection were accepted as a single group and compared with sheep had healthy liver. No important changes were determined in lipid, cholesterol levels and ALT, ALP, LDH activities in damaged and healthy liver groups. In damaged group, protein levels and GGT activities were increased and had statistical importance, while AST activity were increased slightly
