Publication An outbreak of cherry leaf spot ( blumeriella jaapii [rehm] arx.) on sweet cherry in Canakkale province, Turkey(Int Soc Horticultural Science, 2008-01-01) Eris, A; Burak, M; Lang, GA; Gülen, H; Ipek, A; Tezcan, H.; TEZCAN, HİMMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi; Burak, M; Lang, GA; Gulen, H; Ipek, AIn the Biga district of Canakkale Province in Turkey, a commercial sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) orchard established with trees imported from Italian nurseries had symptoms similar those caused by Blumeriella jaapii (Rehm) Arx. Nearly all of the trees were infected. The fungus was identified according to morphological taxonomy. The fungus produced acervuli, which contain conidiophores and conidia, on the lower surface of infected leaves. Conidia are hyaline, two celled, elongated and curved or flexuous. However, the asci and ascospores of the pathogen haven't been determined. The possible reasons for the outbreak and the effectiveness of some pathogen control methods are discussed. After one year, disease incidence decreased from 90% to 10%, with fungicidal control and the collection of diseased leaves on the ground with a special machine.Publication Determination of controlled atmosphere storage conditions for '0900 ziraat' sweet cherry fruit(Int Soc Horticultural Science, 2008-01-01) Eris, A.; Burak, M; Lang, GA; Gülen, H; İpek, A; Akbudak, B.; Tezcan, H.; Eris, A; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi.; Burak, M; Lang, GA; Gulen, H; Ipek, AThe aim of this research was to determine the effects of combinations of low O-2 and high CO2 in the storage atmosphere on the storage quality of '0900 Ziraat' sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.). The fruit were placed in six different %CO2:%O-2 atmosphere combinations (0:21 [control], 5:5, 10:5, 15:5, 20:5, 25:5) at 0 +/- 0.5 degrees C and 90 +/- 5% relative humidity for up to 60 days. The fruit was stored more successfully in 20:5 and 25:5 treatments than in other treatments. Accordingly, it is recommended that the levels of CO2 for the storage of '0900 Ziraat' should be increased above 15% in CA storage.
