Item Crease resistant effect of modified n-methyloldihydroxyethyleneurea and softeners on cotton woven fabric(Ege Üniversitesi, 2013-04) Orhan, Mehmet; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8043-4148; 35307795300This study focuses on investigating effect of modified N-metiloldihidroksietilen tire (DMDHEU) and softener type (fatty acid, macro and micro polysiloxane, wax, and polyethylene) on properties of cotton fabric. The ether linkages between hydroxyl groups of DMDHEU and cellulose were confirmed by appearance of corresponding absorbance at 1730 and 1250 cm-1 in the FTIR spectrum after finishing. Both resins and softeners had extremely low formaldehyde release according to Oeko-Tex 100 standard. It is found that various softener types have significant effect on color evaluation and breaking strength of fabrics and the difference in electrical charge of same type softener is also an important parameter; hence such an investigation should be made to choose the suitable softener type for industrial applications. It is concluded that the softeners based on non-ionic wax and non-ionic polyethylene are the most suitable for softening application on cotton woven fabrics when considering the properties we examined.Item Crease-resistant finish of linen/viscose blend fabrics(INST Chemical Fibres, 2010-01) Güneşoğlu, Cem; Kut, Dilek Toprakkaya; Orhan, Mehmet; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8043-4148; AAH-4335-2021; 55027507400; 35307795300Linen/viscose blend fabrics are treated in different conditions with various concentrations of polycarboxylic acids (BTCA, CA, GA and MA) and N-methylol reagent (DMDHEU) with a relevant catalyst. The characterisation of such fibres is dependent on the degree of crosslinking, which is evaluated by the dry wrinkle recovery angle and tensile strength retention. In trials BTCA showed much better effects on the crease resistant finish of linen/viscose blend fabrics; when comparing the mixture of polycarboxylic acids, BTCA/GA treatment also gives moderate effects. High temperature curing is a handicap for linen/viscose blend fabric treatment when considering strength loss, whereas DMDHEU solutions give better results due to their lower acidity. In order to optimise the crease resistant finish of linen/viscose blend fabrics, it is acceptable to add a triethanolamine additive with the same ratio of the catalyst and cure at 160 degrees C.Item Determining suitable softener type for 100% PET woven fabric(AATCC, 2005-05) Kut, Dilek; Güneşoğlu, Cem; Orhan, Mehmet; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8043-4148; AAH-4335-2021; M-2463-2018; AAG-8034-2021; 55027507400; 8299162200; 35307795300Softeners are common textile treatments that affect many textile properties. The chemical structures of softeners determine their effectiveness. This study focused on the effect of softener type; e.g., micro or macroemulsions of polysiloxane, fatty acid, or quaternary ammonium on 100% PET woven fabric properties including drapeability, lightfastness, color evaluation, and breaking strength. Softeners that gave better drapeability and soft hand were identified, and their effects on other important end use properties were examined. Various softener types had significant effect on these fabric properties, with differences in electrical charge between softeners of the same type being an important parameter. The hydrophilic polysiloxane softener type was found to be the most suitable for application on PET woven fabrics.Item Development of silver-based bactericidal composite nanofibers by airbrushing(Amer Scientific Publishers, 2018-04) Bhullar, Sukhwinder K.; Rana, Deept; Özsel, Burçak Kaya; Jun, Martin B. G.; Buttar, Harpal S.; Ostrovidov, Serge; Ramalingam, Murugan; Orhan, Mehmet; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/ Tekstil Müğendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8043-4148; AAG-8034-2021In this article, we report a simple, cost-effective and eco-friendly method of airbrushing for the fabrication of antibacterial composite nanofibers using Nylon-6 and silver chloride (AgCl). The Nylon-6 is a widely used polymer for various biomedical applications because of its excellent biocompatibility and mechanical properties. Similarly, silver has also been known for their antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. In order to enhance the antibacterial functionality of the Nylon-6, composite nanofibers in combination with AgCl have been fabricated using airbrush method. The chemical functional groups and morphological studies of the airbrushed Nylon-6/AgCl composite nanofibers were carried out by FTIR and SEM, respectively. The antibacterial activity of airbrushed Nylon-6/AgCl composite nanofibers was evaluated using Gram + ve (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram -ve (Escherichia coli) bacterial strains. The results showed that the airbrushed Nylon-6/AgCl composite nanofibers have better antibacterial activity against the tested bacterial strains than the airbrushed Nylon-6 nanofibers. Therefore, the airbrushed Nylon-6/AgCl composite nanofibers could be used as a potential antibacterial scaffolding system for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.Item Dış mekan kumaşlara yapılan ön yıkama işlemlerinin su ve yağ iticilik bitim işlemleri üzerine etkilerinin incelenmesi(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2023-12-25) Karasu, Ahmet; Orhan, Mehmet; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Tekstil Mühendisliği Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0001-7482-0229Bu çalışmada, dış mekan dokuma kumaşlara yapılan ön yıkama işlemlerinin kumaşların su ve yağ iticilik bitim işlemleri üzerine etkileri incelenmiştir. This article evaluates the effect of the particle size of commonly used finishing chemicals (fluorocarbon resins and dimethyloldihydroxylethylene urea reagents) on color assessment by studying instrumental analyses, and it is reported that the smaller the particle size is, the higher the surface reflectance is, and the less the color change can be achieved. On the other hand, the effect of the particle size is not significant on color assessment after abrading cycles.Item Effects of environmental conditions on the antibacterial activity of treated cotton knits(Amer Assoc Textile Chemists Colorists - AATCC, 2005-03) Kut, Dilek; Orhan, Mehmet; Güneşoğlu, Cem; Özakın, Cüneyt; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik-Mimarlık Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8043-4148; AAH-4335-2021; M-2463-2018; 55027507400; 35307795300; 8299162200; 57200678942The effects of environmental conditions on the antibacterial activity of finished single jersey-knitted cotton fabric have been studied. The fabrics were bleached, finished separately with antibacterial chemicals, and subsequently exposed to chemical solutions that simulated use and wear. The resulting antibacterial activities were evaluated against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria using AATCC Test Method 100-1999. Bleaching and antibacterial finishing led to significant reductions in bacterial growth. The leaching (control led-release) antibacterial mechanism was found to be more effective than the non-leaching mechanism on the respectively finished cotton fabrics. The finished bleached fabrics maintained good antibacterial activity against S. aureus even after the fabrics were exposed to urine.Item A facile method for controlled fabrication of hybrid silver nanoparticle-poly (epsilon-caprolactone) fibrous constructs with antimicrobial properties(American Scientific Publishers, 2019-11) Bhullar, Sukhwinder K.; Ruzgar, Duygu Gazioglu; Fortunato, Giuseppino; Aneja, Ginpreet Kaur; Saber-Samandari, Saeed; Sadighi, Mojtaba; Ahadian, Samad; Ramalingam, Murugan; Orhan, Mehmet; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8043-4148; AAG-8034-2021Infection is one of the major factors affecting wound healing. The use of polymeric fibrous constructs or scaffolds with encapsulated biologically active components has shown great potential in topical wound care as wound dressings to expedite wound healing process; however, there is a limitation in precise control over the release of active components. Therefore, in this study, the authors developed a facile method for controlled fabrication of poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) microfibrous constructs with silver (Ag) nanoparticles as antibacterial agent by single capillary electrospinning. By optimizing spinning parameters, the PCL microfibrous constructs were fabricated. The encapsulation of Ag nanoparticles within the PCL microfibers was confirmed using microstructural analysis. The encapsulation efficacy and release profile of Ag was evaluated in vitro. The diffusion study further revealed the controlled release and optimal bioavailability of Ag during the experimental period. In vitro assessment of antibacterial activity of electrospun hybrid constructs showed a high antibacterial activity and an inhibitory effect on the growth of both staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli bacteria when compared to PCL and their efficiency of antibacterial activity also varied with respect to the percent of encapsulated Ag nanoparticles. This kind of Ag nanoparticles-loaded PCL microfibrous constructs may be considered for wound care applications.Item Farklı monomer karışım oranları ile üretilen poliüretanların yüzey ve akustik özelliklerinin incelenmesi(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2023) Keskin, Ecem Nur; Orhan, Mehmet; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Tekstil Mühendisliği Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0003-2056-1684Bu tez çalışmasında araçların kaput altı, su kutusu ve motor bölgelerinde akustik amaçlı kullanılan düşük yoğunluklu poliüretan (L.PU) köpüklerin monomer oranlarının değiştirilmesinden ve mikro boyutlu içi boş kürecik esaslı katkı malzemesi ilave edilmesinden sonra yüzey, akustik ve güç tutuşurluk özellikleri üzerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Therefore, cotton fabrics were bleached with hydrogen peroxide, finished with triclosan, and then treated with polycarboxylic acids such as 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) and citric acid (CA) as crosslinking agents to provide durable antibacterial properties. The surface of fibers treated with BTCA had a greater crosslinked area, and the surfaces of fabrics treated with CA were exposed to greater amounts of deformation due to the mechanical and chemical influences after 50 launderings. The bleaching and finishing treatments did not dramatically affect the breaking strength. However, the polycarboxylic acid treatment (both BTCA and CA) alone showed reductions in the breaking strength when the acid concentration was increased. The polycarboxylic acids were fairly effective against both bacteria, even at lower concentrations, when they were applied to stand-alone cotton fabrics, whereas the antibacterial activity decreased somewhat after the use of polycarboxylic acid and triclosan in the same recipes. Adding polycarboxylic acids to the antibacterial finishing recipes enhanced the durability after 50 launderings, and the durability of the recipes containing BTCA was much higher than that of the recipes containing CA.Item Improving the antibacterial property of polyethylene terephthalate by cold plasma treatment(Springer, 2012-04) Güneşoğlu, Cem; Orhan, Mehmet; Kut, Dilek; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8043-4148; AAH-4335-2021Many studies suggest strong hydrophilicity of plasma treated polyester surfaces. However, no studies have been reported on the influence of plasma on the antibacterial activity of polyethylene terephthalate. First samples were padded with triclosan as antibacterial agent with different concentrations. Second samples were treated by oxygen plasma with different operating frequency and treating time, respectively. Afterwards, plasma treated samples were padded with triclosan in same conditions. The results revealed that the antibacterial activity slighlty increased after treating with triclosan. SEM images and FTIR spectra showed that horizontal channels were brought about on the fiber surface and then better surface roughness and wettability were obtained by plasma. Fibers were fully coated with triclosan after plasma and the antibacterial activity increased with increasing operating frequency and reaction time. Finally, the samples treated with triclosan after plasma gave acceptable results and showed the best antibacterial activity for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.Item An investigation into the possibility of using cyclodextrin in crease resistant finish(Inst Chemical Fibres, 2007-04) Kut Toprakkaya, Dilek; Güneşoğlu, Cem; Orhan, Mehmet; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8043-4148; M-2463-2018; AAH-4335-2021; 55027507400; 8299162200; 35307795300Cyclodextrins (CDs) can form molecular complexes with a very wide range of compounds thanks to their hydrophobic internal cavity. This feature enables them to be incorporated into fabrics, to entrap and mask a very wide range of solid, liquid and gaseous odours. One well-known disadvantage of classical crease-resistant finish is that the treated fabrics emit formaldehyde, and there are several approaches to preventing or decreasing the volume of formaldehyde emitted. In this study we evaluate the Possibility of using CDs for this purpose. We assumed that formuldehyde would settle within the cavity of the CD, and that the cross-linking occurring between CDs and the cross-linking agent would the increase the crease-resistance property. However, the presence of CDs in crease-resistant finish did not show the expected results.Publication Investigation of poly(lactic acid) nanocapsules containing the plant extract via coaxial electrospraying method for functional nonwoven applications(Sage Publications Inc, 2021-01-25) İbili, Hatice; Daşdemir, Mehmet; Çankaya, I. Irem Tatlı; Orhan, Mehmet; Güneşoğlu, Cem; Anul, Serap Arabacı; ORHAN, MEHMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0001-8043-4148; AAG-8034-2021This study focuses on the development of functional nanocapsules via the coaxial electrohydrodynamic atomization (electrospraying) method. These nanocapsules can manipulate nonwoven surface functionality in terms of antibacterial characteristics for medical textile purposes. Electrosprayed nanocapsules were produced from Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) polymer and Plumbago europaea plant extract. Here, we employ optimized solution and process parameters (needle to collector distance, electrical field, application time, and needle dimension) for the coaxial electrospraying process. Different Plumbago europaea extract concentrations and co-fluids' flow rates were investigated as part of the study. Also, the effect of these parameters on capsule morphology and dimension were investigated. After the formation of PLA nanocapsules, morphological and dimensional characteristics were analyzed through SEM, FESEM, TEM images in addition to FTIR and nanosize measurements. According to our findings, a lower co-fluids' flow rate gives the smaller nanocapsules with narrow-sized distribution and desired spherical morphology. Antibacterial efficiency doesn't show any significant difference except the lowest plant extract concentrations. After characterizing the nanocapsules' structures, the core-sheath structure can be clearly identified. Consequently, the desired capsule morphology and size for nanocapsules were accomplished. The antibacterial efficiency of covered surfaces with nanocapsules is up to 80% for Staphylococcus aureus and about 31% for Escherichia coli, even with low pick-up ratios. Even for a very low amount of extract usage, good antibacterial efficiency can be achieved. The application has endless potential in terms of higher concentration and a wide range of chemical usage.Item Ixodid ticks (Acari: Ixodidae) infesting humans in Tokat Province of Turkey: Species diversity and seasonal activity(SOC Vector Ecology, 2010-06) Bursalı, Ahmet; Tekin, Şaban; Orhan, Mehmet; Keskin, Adem; Özkan, Muhlis; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Eğitim Fakültesi/Fen Bilimleri Eğitimi Bölümü.; 7103273174Ixodid ticks (Acari: Ixodidae) are the major vectors of pathogens threatening animal and human health. Tokat Province, Turkey, is a suitable habitat for extended tick activity with its moderate climate and vegetation. In the present study, we surveyed humans visiting health centers to determine the species diversity, geographical distribution, and seasonal activity of ixodid ticks infesting them. Out of 5,999 adult ticks collected from humans from April to September, 2008, 800 ticks were identified to species, while the remaining were identified to genus according to their distinct morphological characteristics. Hyalomma marginatum, Hyalomma detritum, Rhipicephalus bursa, Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) annulatus, Haemaphysalis punctata, Dermacentor marginatus, and Ixodes laguri were the most prevalent tick species among 24 ixodid tick species infesting humans in the region. One of these tick species, Hyalomma isacii was identified as a new record for the ixodid tick fauna of Turkey. Hyalomma species were the most abundant in summer, while Dermacentor and Ixodes species displayed the lowest frequency. Hyalomma aegyptium infestation was very common on humans in the province. Results indicated that a variety of ixodid tick species infest humans depending on the season in the target area. It is possible that a variety of ixodid tick species may contribute to the spread of tick-borne diseases such as Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), which is endemic in the region.Item Obtaining medical textiles including microcapsules of the ozonated vegetable oils(Korean Fiber Society, 2017-04-03) Beşen, Burcu Sancar; Balcı, Onur; Güneşoğlu, Cem; Somuncuoğlu, E.İnci; Tatlı, İ.
