Publication First molecular survey of piroplasm species in cattle from Kyrgyzstan(Springer, 2019-08-01) Aktaş, Münir; Kısadere, İhsan; Özübek, Sezayi; Cihan, Hüseyin; Salykov, Ruslan S.; Çirak, Veli Yılgör; CİHAN, HÜSEYİN; ÇIRAK, VELİ YILGÖR; Veteriner Fakültesi; İç Hastalıkları Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0003-1544-6438; ABH-3742-2020; FYC-2043-2022Bovine piroplasmosis is a tick-borne disease caused by apicomplexan hemoparasites of the genera Theileria and Babesia. This study was carried out to assess the presence and frequency of piroplasm parasites in apparently healthy cattle in Kyrgyzstan. A total of 454 blood samples were collected from animals of various ages in eight villages located in the Chu valley and around the Lake Issyk Kul. The hypervariable V4 region of the 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene was amplified with a set of primers specific targeting members of the genera Theileria and Babesia. Amplified PCR products were hybridized onto a membrane to which generic and species-specific oligonucleotide probes were covalently linked. The results revealed the presence of three piroplasm species (Theileria orientalis, Babesia major, Theileria annulata). Theileria orientalis was the most prevalent species (32.8%; CI 28.5-37.3). Babesia major was the only species of Babesia found in any of the samples (1.3%; CI 0.5-2.8). The co-existence of Theileria annulata and T. orientalis was detected in nine animals (1.9%; CI 0.9-3.7). BLAST search revealed that the Theileria sequences shared 100% identity with the recently reported sequences for T. buffeli and T. annulata. The sequence of B. major was also 100% identical to an existing B. major sequence. This molecular survey provides important epidemiological data for control of bovine piroplasmosis caused by T. orientalis, B. major, and T. annulata in Kyrgyzstan.Publication A retrospective evaluation of patients with rickets(Galenos Yayıncılık, 2011-08-01) Ocak, Muzaffer; Eren, Erdal; İstanbullu, Kenan; Sağlam, Halil; Ocak, Muzaffer; EREN, ERDAL; İstanbullu, Kenan; SAĞLAM, HALİL; Tıp Fakültesi; Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0002-1684-1053; 0000-0003-0710-5422; C-7392-2019; JPK-3909-2023; DJC-5079-2022; CXB-4890-2022Introduction: Rickets is a group of diseases presenting with skeletal deformities and decreased growth rate due to diminished epiphyseal calcification. It has been previously reported that in our country, nutritional rickets with Vitamin D insufficiency is an important healthcare problem.Material and Method: In this study, we have evaluated 20 patients with rickets being followed up in pediatric endocrinology outpatient clinic of Uludag University between 2006 and 2010. The diagnosis of nutritional rickets was defined with positive response to treatment and hypocalcaemia accompanied by one of the followings; rickets specific radiological changes, high alkaline phosphates levels or low Vitamin D levels. p<0.05 is accepted as statistically significant. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 16.0.Results: A total of 14 boys and 6 girls were included in this study. Ten of the patients were considered as nutritional rickets, 5 were hypophosphatemic rickets and 5 were vitamin D dependent rickets type 1. On radiological evaluation, distal metaphyseal enlargement-irregularity of radius and ulna was found in 11 patients. O-bain deformity was seen in 3 patients. Ten of the patients were from small districts, 5 were from villages and the remainders were from city center. The main complaints were short stature in 5 patients, difficulty in walking in 4 patients, recurrent pneumonia in 4 patients, seizure in 4 patients, bone deformity in 3 patients, tetany in 2 patients, and ballismus in one patient.Discussion: Rickets is still a major health problem in childhood. It must be kept in mind in the patients who have short stature and difficulty in walking. Vitamin D dependent rickets or hypophosphatemic rickets must be considered in the patients who have signs and symptoms of rickets in spite of regular vitamin D supplementation. These patients should be referred to a pediatric endocrinologist.Publication Impacts of "La Der Des Ders" on structure of international system(Hale Sivgin, 2014-06-01) Özdal, Barış; Jane, Murat; ÖZDAL, BARIŞ; JANE, MURAT; İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi; Uluslararası İlişkiler Bölümü; Siyasi Tarih Bilim Dalı; AAH-6234-2021; FAL-5498-2022World War, which will later on have "First" annex, defined as "la Der Des Ders (the last of all wars)" at the end of 1918. It may be asserted that purpose of this phrase, which may be seen poetically at first sight, is substantially to create a "sustainable peace" perception on public opinions via new structure of international system constituted at the end of war if aforementioned era is examined in detail. In this context, firstly development of international system will be explained in general terms and facts effecting on changing of structure of international system in the process of the First World War, will be explicated in our work. In the last chapter of our work, international system constituted at the end of the First World War will be analysed and it will be argued that trying to create an ideal(ist) system perception via this structure as of the end of the First World War.Publication Utility of blood gas values in place of biochemical values in emergency department(Pera Yayıncılık Hizmetleri, 2012-07-01) Öner, Nuran; Köse, Ataman; Armağan, Erol; Sert, Pınar Çınar; Balcı, Arif Kadri; İnal, Taylan; Öner, Nuran; Köse, Ataman; ARMAĞAN, EROL; Sert, Pınar Çınar; Balcı, Arif Kadri; İnal, Taylan; Tıp Fakültesi; Acil Tıp Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0002-4761-7863; ABD-7228-2021; AAM-7896-2020; AAH-8846-2021; DJG-5702-2022; FZV-9566-2022; CVZ-5417-2022It is aimed to investigate the utility of blood gas electrolyte and glucose values in place of biochemical electrolyte and glucose values in Emergency Department (ED). The group of patients, whose blood gas electrolyte, glucose and also biochemical electrolyte and glucose values were examined, These data were derived from 1007 patients at the age of 18 and older, who were admitted to Uludag University ED and whose blood gas values were examined between July 2011 and October 2011. While biochemistry K+ median was 4,2 mmol/L, blood gas K+ median was 3,86 mmol/L. When blood gas and biochemical K+ values were compared, average difference was - 0,4 mmol/L (95% confidence limits: - 1,5- 0,7 mmol/L) and correlation coefficient was r=0.794 (p< 0.001). Biochemistry Na+ median was 136 mmol/L whereas blood gas Na+ median was 138,6 mmol/L. When blood gas and biochemical Na+ values compared, average difference was 2,7 mmol/L (95% confidence limits: - 3,8- 9,2 mmol/L) and correlation coefficient was (r=0.836 p< 0,001). Biochemistry glucose median was found out as 125,5 mg/dl whereas blood gas median was 147 mg/dl. When blood gas and biochemical glucose values were compared, average difference was 17,3 mg/dl, (95% confidence limits: - 72,3- 106,9 mg/dl), correlation coefficient was (r=0,904 p< 0,001). Significantly positive correlation was determined between results. When blood gas electrolyte and glucose values compared with biochemical values, it was seen that they were consistent with each other. Blood gas values, which are rapid tests, might be used - especially in case of emergency, in treatment of critical patients - until biochemical values are obtained.Publication Childhood masturbation sleep habits of children, maternal psychopathology, and other risk factors-a controlled study(Slack Inc, 2022-01-01) Murat, Duygu; Uçar, Halit Necmi; Eray, Şafak; ERAY ÇAMLI, ŞAFAK; Tıp Fakültesi; Çocuk ve Ergen Psikiyatrisi Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0002-4847-7751; AAG-8101-2021The current study aimed to explore sleep habits, maternal psychological symptoms, and other risk factors in children with childhood masturbation (CM). The study was conducted with 80 children with CM and 44 children as a control group. Sleep habits were assessed with the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire and mothers' psychiatric symptoms were screened using the Symptom Checklist-90. In the CM group, sleeping in the same room with parents, history of unplanned pregnancy, and not playing with the child every day were more common than in the control group. Sleep problems (in particular, night waking) are associated with increased incidence of CM. The simple act of parents playing with their children every day may protect against children engaging in CM. Maternal psychiatric symptoms were more common among children with CM than in the control group. By expanding our knowledge about potential risk factors associated with CM, clinicians can distinguish between desirable and undesirable behavior and intervene in pathological cases.Publication Characteristics of food allergy in children: National multicenter study(Wiley, 2019-08-01) Bingol, A.; Uygun, Kocacik D. A total of 720 eggs were randomly allocated to 3 treatment groups: control EST (37.8 degrees C during the first 14 d and 36.8 degrees C between d 15 and 21 of incubation), early high EST (as control, but 38.9 degrees C between d 4 and 7), and late high EST treatment (37.8 degrees C during the first 14 d and 38.2 degrees C between d 15 and 21). At d 18 of incubation, the length of the femur, tibia, and metatarsus were found to be lower in the early high EST treatment than in both other treatment. Hatchability was higher in the early high and control EST treatment than in the late high EST treatment (Delta = 4.2% on average; P = 0.02), whereas the opposite was found for late term embryonic mortality (Delta = 4.0% on average; P = 0.02). Navel score was higher for the late high EST treatment than for the early high EST and control treatment (1.36 vs. 1.19 and 1.17, respectively; P < 0.001). At hatch, chick weight, and organ weights were lower in the late high EST treatment than in the control treatment, with the early high EST treatment in between. At hatch, most femur, tibia, and metatarsus characteristics were lower for the early high EST treatment compared to both other treatments. The same was found for tibia ash, Ca, and P concentrations. Blood ALP and P levels were higher in the control group than in both other treatment groups. It can be concluded that early high EST particularly affected bone development during incubation, whereas late high EST particularly resulted in a decline in hatchability and chick quality in broiler chicks.Publication Incidence of anterior uveitis in axial spondyloarthritis during secukinumab treatment: Two years real life experience from Turkbio registry(Bmj Publishing Group, 2022-06-01) Akleylek, Cansu; Akar, Servet; Cinakli, Haluk; Sağır, Rabia Piskin; Karakaş, Ali; Apaydin, H.; Kardaş, Rıza Can; Işık, O. A questionnaire was prepared and invitations were sent from the association's communication channels to reach the whole country. Data were collected through all participating intensivists between the October 26, 2016 at 08:00 and October 27, 2016 at 08:00.RESULTS: Data were collected from the 67 centers. Overall, 76.1% of the ICUs were managed with a closed system. In total, 35.8% (n=24) of ICUs were levels of care (LOC) 2 and 64.2% (n=43) were LOC 3. The median total numbers of ICU beds, LOC 2, and LOC 3 beds were 12 (8-23), 14 (10-25), and 12 (8-20), respectively. The median number of ventilators was 12 (7-21) and that of ventilators with non-invasive ventilation mode was 11 (6-20). The median numbers of patients per physician during day and night were 3.9 (2.3-8) and 13 (9-23), respectively. The median number of patients per nurse was 2.5 (2-3.1); 88.1% of the nurses were certified by national certification corporation.CONCLUSION: In terms of the number of staff, there is a need for specialist physicians, especially during the night and nurses in our country. It was thought that the number of ICU-certified nurses was comparatively sufficient, yet the target was supposed to be 100% for this rate.Publication Presence of severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA on particulate matters: A multi central study in Turkey(Amer Thoracic Soc, 2021-05-01) Bayram, H.; Kayalar, O.; Ari, A.; Babuccu, G.; Konyalilar, N.; Doan, O.; Can, F.; Gaga, E.; Kuzu, L.; Ari, P.; Odabasi, M.; Tasdemir, Y.; Cindoruk, S.; Esen, F.; Sakin, E.; Çalışkan, B.; Tecer, L.; Ficici, M.; Altin, A.; Onat, B.; Ayvaz, C.; Uzun, B.; Saral, A.; Doerolu, T.; Malkoc, S.; Uzmez, O.; Kunt, F.; Aydin, S.; Kara, M.; Yaman, B.; Doan, G.; Olgun, B.; Dokumaci, E.; Gullu, G.; Uzunpinar, E.; Ahin, U.; ESEN, FATMA; SAKIN, AHMET EGEMEN; ÇALIŞKAN, BURAK; TAŞDEMİR, YÜCEL; CİNDORUK, SABAHATTİN SIDDIK; Mühendislik Fakültesi; Çevre Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0002-8729-9441 ; GFK-4579-2022; EQF-8232-2022; AAG-8469-2021; AAT-6526-2020; FSY-2586-2022Publication The impact of 6-month delay in diagnosis on clinical and functional status in the psa patients under bdmard treatment: Results from treasure database(Bmj Publishing Group, 2023-06-01) Ayan, Güzin; Kılıç, Levent; Bilge, N. Our results across the entire patient cohort showed a median progression-free survival (PFS) of 10.6 months and a median overall survival (OS) of 60.4 months. First-line CAPTEM treatment appeared more effective, with a median PFS of 16.1 months and a median OS of 105.8 months (median PFS 16.1, 7.9, and 9.6 months in first-, second-and =third-line respectively, P = .01; with median OS values of 105.8, 47.2, and 24.1 months, respectively, P = .003) In terms of ORR, the first-line treatment again performed better, resulting in an ORR of 54.7% compared to 33.3% and 30.0% in the second and third or higher lines, respectively (P < .001). Grade 3-4 side effects occurred only in 22.5% of the patients, leading to a discontinuation rate of 9.5%. Despite the differences in outcomes based on treatment line, we did not observe a significant difference in terms of side effects between the first and subsequent lines of treatment. Conclusions and Relevance: The substantial superior outcomes in patients receiving first-line CAPTEM treatment highlight its potential as an effective treatment strategy for patients with metastatic NET.Publication Psychometric properties of screening instruments for psoriatic arthritis(Bmj Publishing Group, 2023-06-01) Özdede, Ayşe; Ayan, Güzin; Can, Gerçek; Bektaş, Murat; Akdoğan, Nil; Solak, E. We retrospectively enrolled 1469 patients with TM who underwent their first HSCT between 1988 and 2020 in 25 pediatric centers in Turkey. The median follow-up duration and transplant ages were 62 months and 7 years, respectively; 113 patients had chronic graft versus host disease (cGVHD) and the cGVHD rate was 8.3% in surviving patients. Upon the last visit, 30 patients still had cGvHD (2.2%). The 5-year overall survival (OS), thalassemia-free survival (TFS) and thalassemia-GVHD-free survival (TGFS) rates were 92.3%, 82.1%, and 80.8%, respectively. cGVHD incidence was significantly lower in the mixed chimerism (MC) group compared to the complete chimerism (CC) group (p < 0.001). In survival analysis, OS, TFS, and TGFS rates were significantly higher for transplants after 2010. TFS and TGFS rates were better for patients under 7 years and at centers that had performed over 100 thalassemia transplants. Transplants from matched unrelated donors had significantly higher TFS rates. We recommend HSCT before 7 years old in thalassemia patients who have a matched donor for improved outcomes.Publication Immunosuppressive treatment results in patients with primary iga nephropathy in Turkiye: A nationwide study(Oxford Univ Press, 2023-06-01) Sümnü, Abdullah; Türkmen, Aydın; Baştürk, Taner; Cebeci, Egemen; Turgutalp, Kenan; Çetinkaya, Hakkı; Kibar, Müge Üzerk; Seyahi, Nurhan; Tatar, Erhan; Ergül, Metin; Derici, Ülver; Aylı, Deniz; Pınar, Musa; Bakar, Betül; Kazancıoğlu, Rümeyza; Dirim, Ahmet Burak; Yılmaz, Zülfikar; Türkmen, Kültiğin; Tunca, Onur; Koç, Mehmet; Kutlay, Sim; Mlicozkadioğlu, Hasan; Azak, Alper; Boztepe, Burcu; Ustundağ, Sedat; Öztürk, Seda Şafak; Ünsal, Abdülkadir; Karadağ, Serhat; Şahin, Gülizar Manga; Yenigün, Ezgi Coşkun; Eren, Necmi; Güllülü, Mustafa; GÜLLÜLÜ, MUSTAFA; Oruç, Ayşegül; ORUÇ, AYŞEGÜL; Yıldız, Abdülmecit; YILDIZ, ABDULMECİT; Tıp Fakültesi; Nefroloji Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0002-0342-9692; AAH-4002-2021; HIG-9032-2022; JCR-8518-2023Publication Propsea, safety evaluation of palbociclib and ribociclib in older patients with breast cancer: A prospective real-world tog study(Elsevier, 2023-09-06) Avcı, Okan; İriagaç, Yakup; Cavdar, Eyyüp; Karaboyun, Kubilay; Araz, Murat; Sakalar, Teoman; Degerli, Ezgi; Özdemir, Özlem; Inal, Ali; Ürün, Muslih; Sakin, Abdullah; Tacar, Seher Yıldız; Koçak, Mehmet Zahid; Demir, Hacer; Özer, Özden; Simşek, Eda Tanrıkulu; Ersoy, Mustafa; Karakas, Yusuf; Arıkan, Rukiye; Esbah, Onur; On, Sercan; Tasçı, Elif Şenocak; Mandel, Nil Molinas; Türker, Sema; Kacan, Turgut; Yıldırım, Hasan Cağrı; Alan, Özkan; Akbaş, Sinem; Deniz, Gülhan İpek; Isak, Özlem Aydın; Taşkaynatan, Halil; Seber, Erdoğan Selçuk; Ocak, Birol; OCAK, BİROL; Tıp Fakültesi; Tıbbi Onkoloji Ana Bilim Dalı; AEC-2238-2022Introduction: In this study, the toxicities and management of palbociclib and ribociclib in older patients (>= 65 years) with metastatic breast cancer patients were investigated.Materials and Methods: Among older patients receiving palbociclib and ribociclib, Geriatric 8 (G8) and Groningen Frailty Index were used to evaluate frailty status. Dose modifications, drug withdrawal and other serious adverse events (SAEs) were recorded and analyzed according to baseline patient characteristics. Results: A total of 160 patients from 28 centers in Turkey were included (palbociclib = 76, ribociclib = 84). Forty-three patients were >= 75 years of age. The most common cause of first dose modification was neutropenia for both drugs (97% palbociclib, 69% ribociclib). Liver function tests elevation (10%) and renal function impairment (6%) were also causes for ribociclib dose modification. Drug withdrawal rate was 3.9% for palbociclib and 6% for ribociclib. SAEs were seen in 11.8% of those taking palbociclib and 15.5% of those on riboclib. An ECOG performance status of >= 2 and being older than 75 years were associated with dose reductions. Severe neutropenia was more common in patients with non-bone-only metastatic disease, those receiving treatment third-line therapy or higher, coexistance of non-neutropenic hematological side effects (for ribociclib). Neutropenia was less common among patients with obesity.Discussion: Our results show that it can be reasonable to start palbociclib and ribociclib at reduced dose in patients aged >= 75 years and/or with an ECOG performance status >= 2.
