Helminh Parasites of Two Lacertid Species, Anatololacerta anatolica (Wermer, 1902) and Darevskia rudis (Bedriaga, 1886) (Sauria: Lacertidae) from Bursa Province, North-Western Turkey
(Inst Zoology, Bas, 2020-06-01) Bursey, Charles R.; Yıldırımhan, Hikmet S.; Sümer, Nurhan; SÜMER, NURHAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi/Biyoloji Bölümü.; AAH-4193-2021
Totally, 106 lacertid lizards of two species, Anatololacerta anatolica (n=63) and Darevskia rudis (n=43), from Bursa Province, Turkey, were examined for helminth parasites. In Anatololacerta anatolica, one species of Cestoda, Mesocestoides sp. (tetrathyridium), four species of Nematoda, Skrjabinodon medinae, Spauligodon saxicolae, Skrjabinelazia hoffmanni and Ascamps strongylina (larva in cysts), and one species of Acanthocephala, Plagiorhynchus sp. (cystacanth), were found. In Darevskia rudis, two nematode species, Skrjabinodon medinae and Spauligodon saxicolae, were recorded. The helminth species reported in this study are generalists infecting more than one host species.

A total of 80 specimens of three species of lacertid Podarcis muralis (39), Podarcis siculus (18) and Ophisops elegans (23) from Bursa were examined for helminths. One species of Digenea, Plagiorchis elegans, 1 species of Cestoda, Mesocestoides sp. (tetrathyridium); and 3 species of Nematoda, Skrjabinodon medinae, Spauligodon saxicolae and Skrjabinelazia hoffmanni were found. The helminths reported in this study are generalist helminths that infect a number of lizards.

Intestinal helminth parasites of two bat species of the genus myotis kaup, 1829 (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) from Turkey, with DNA sequencing of helminth nuclear LSR rDNA

Three individuals of Myotis alcathoe von HeIversen & Heller, 2001 (males) and twenty three individuals of Myotis daubentonii (Kuhl, 1817) (three females and twenty males) from Bursa Province, Turkey, were examined for helminth parasites. Myotis alcathoe was found to harbour four species of digeneans: Prosthodendrium ascidia, Lecithodendrium linstowi, Plagiorchis koreanus and Plagiorchis elegans. Myotis daubentonii was found to harbour eight species of digeneans: Prosthodendrium chilostomum, Prosthodendrium longiforme, Prosthodendrium hurkovae, Lecithodendrium linstowi, Plagiorchis koreanus, Plagiorchis muelleri, Plagiorchis elegans and Plagiorchis vespertilionis, as well as two species of nematodes: Capillaria moraveci and Molinostrongylus skrjabini. All these species were identified using both morphological and molecular methods, obtaining consistent results. To our knowledge, this is the first helminthological examination of Myotis alcathoe and four new host and geographical records are reported. New host and geographical records for five species of helminths are reported for Myotis daubentonii. The 28s rDNA partial sequences of two helminth species (Prosthodendrium ascidia and Molinostrongylus skrjabini) are new records for GenBank.

The yellow-legged gull, Larus michahellis, is a common gull that exists in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Their broad diet makes them especially susceptible to a variety of helminths. We conducted a survey of intestinal helminths of L. michahellis to determine the diversity of intestinal parasites. Thirty-five yellow-legged gulls were necropsied, and helminths were examined via light microscopy. Twenty-three of 35 (65%) of hosts examined were infected with the following helminths: 6 Digenea species (Acanthotrema armata, Brachylaima aspersae, Cryptocotyle lingua, Diplostomum spathaceum, Knipowitschiatrema sp., and Stephanoprora denticulata); 5 Cestode species (Alcotaenia microcantha, Diphyllobothrium dentriticum, Microsomacanthus ductilis, Monopylidium galbulae, and Tetrabothrius erostris); and 2 Nematode species (Contracaecum rudolphii and Synhimanthus sp.). Herein, the intestinal parasite diversity of yellow-legged gulls from Turkey is reported, and new geographical records are documented.
