Publication 2d Temperature analysis of energy and exergy characteristics of laminar steady flow across a square cylinder under strong blockage(MDPI, 2015-05-01) Korukçu, Mehmet Özgün; KORUKÇU, MEHMET ÖZGÜN; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü; JAO-3455-2023Energy and exergy characteristics of a square cylinder (SC) in confined flow are investigated computationally by numerically handling the steady-state continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equations in the Reynolds number range of Re = 10-50, where the blockage ratio ( = B/H) is kept constant at the high level of = 0.8. Computations indicated for the upstream region that, the mean non-dimensional streamwise (u/U-o) and spanwise (v/U-o) velocities attain the values of u/U-o = 0.8400.879 and v/U-o = 0.2360.386 (Re = 1050) on the front-surface of the SC, implying that Reynolds number and blockage have stronger impact on the spanwise momentum activity. It is determined that flows with high Reynolds number interact with the front-surface of the SC developing thinner thermal boundary layers and greater temperature gradients, which promotes the thermal entropy generation values as well. The strict guidance of the throat, not only resulted in the fully developed flow character, but also imposed additional cooling; such that the analysis pointed out the drop of duct wall (y = 0.025 m) non-dimensional temperature values () from = 0.3870.926 (Re = 1050) at x(th) = 0 mm to = 0.0020.266 at x(th) = 40 mm. In the downstream region, spanwise thermal disturbances are evaluated to be most inspectable in the vortex driven region, where the temperature values show decrease trends in the spanwise direction. In the corresponding domain, exergy destruction is determined to grow with Reynolds number and decrease in the streamwise direction (x(ds) = 010 mm). Besides, asymmetric entropy distributions as well were recorded due to the comprehensive mixing caused by the vortex system.Publication Investigation of long term wind characteristics and wind energy potential in bandirma, Turkey(Pamukkale Üniversitesi, 2017-01-01) Korukçu, Mehmet Özgün; KORUKÇU, MEHMET ÖZGÜN; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü; JAO-3455-2023In this study, wind speed characteristics and wind energy potential were analyzed by using the wind speed data from the meteorological station of Bandirma, Turkey. The hourly time-series wind speed data and wind direction were collected for 30 years between 1975 and 2005. The measured wind speed data were processed for 30 years and seasonal. Weibull and Rayleigh probability density functions were obtained from the observed data and Weibull shape parameter c and the scale parameter k were found as 4.55 and 1.66 for 30 years. The wind energy potentials of 30 years were compared according to Weibull distribution and actual data. The most frequent wind direction was found from NNE direction with the highest mean wind speed value of 4.78 m/s. Seasonal wind speed characteristics were also calculated. The highest mean wind speed value was found for summer season with 4.40 m/s.Publication Effect of solar radiation on thermal comfort in an automobile cabin(Pamukkale Üniversitesi, 2012-01-01) Korukçu, M. Özgün; Kılıç, Muhsin; KORUKÇU, MEHMET ÖZGÜN; KILIÇ, MUHSİN; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-2113-4510; JAO-3455-2023; O-2253-2015The aim of this study is to evaluate effect of solar radiation on thermal comfort in an automobile during cooling period with experiments. High cabin interior temperature. especially in summer months, causes discomfort for driver and the passengers. In the study, ambient temperature. relative humidity, mean radiant temperature and mean skin temperature of the driver inside the automobile cabin during cooling period for same vent air velocities with different solar radiation values were measured in a parked car. Subjective survey was performed during the experiments to the driver. Experiments were held under real conditions and the results were compared with answers taken from the subject and discussed. Adequate thermal comfort conditions were not obtained for high solar radiation values but it was found that thermal comfort conditions inside the cabin were quite acceptable for low solar radiation values.
