Abstract

Although there are a number of detailed studies available on 19th. century Ottoman public finance, there have not been any examination of the 19th. century Ottoman military expenditures. The primary aim of this study is to determine the Ottoman military expenditure levels and shares for the latter half of the 19th. century via consolidating certain military expenditure items in some published Ottoman budgets. The secondary goal is to carry out a comparative analysis with the 19th. century major powers such as England, France, Germany and Russia.
