Abstract
This randomized, controlled study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy and safety or treatment with topical NSAIDs for 3 week in relieving symptoms such as pain, stiffness and grip strength of OA hand. A total of 72 out-patients entered into the study. 22 patients (mean age 50.5 + 11.2) were treated with Diclofenac Na-gel (1.16 % Diclofenac diethylammonium) twice daily, 18 patients (mean age 64.5 + 18.4) with Naproxen-gel (100 mglg), 17 patients (mean age 54.5 + 8.6) with Etofenamate-gel (50 mglg), 15 patients (mean age 64.5 + 11.6) with placebo elearn (without any active substance). None of the patients dropped out. In conclusion, some topical NSAIDs (Diclofenak Na, Naproxen, Etofenamat) may have improved the symptoms of OA. But this improvement was not superior to placebo elearn statistically significantly in a short period of time.
