Abstract
Paul Tillich’e göre, birbirinden kesinlikle farklı gerçeklik seviyeleri mevcut olup, bunlar farklı yaklaşımları ve farklı dilleri talep etmektedir. Din dilinin doğası semboliktir. Semboller ile işaretler arasındaki temel ayrım şudur: İşaretler, her hangi bir şekilde işaret ettikleri şeyin gerçekliğine ve gücüne katılmazlar. Oysa semboller, sembolize ettikleri şeyle aynı olmamalarına rağmen, onun anlamına ve gücüne katılırlar. Peki, “Semboller nereden doğar?” Onların kaynağı, bugünlerde genellikle grup bilinçaltı ya kolektif bilinçaltı denilen yerdir. Dinî semboller, bütün diğer sembollerin yaptığı aynı şeyi yani aksi takdirde bize gizli kalan, hiçbir surette açılamayan bir gerçeklik seviyesini açma işini yapar. Bütün dinî sembollerin iki temel düzlemi vardır: Tecrübî gerçekliğin ötesine geçen aşkın düzlem ve tecrübî gerçekliğin içinde karşılaştığımız içkin düzlem.
According to Tillich, there are levels of reality of great difference, and that these different levels demand different approaches and different languages. The nature of religious language is symbolic. The difference, which is a fundementl difference between the, is that signs do not participate in any way in the reality and power of that to which they point. Symbols, although they are not the same as that which they sembolize, participate in its meaning and power. Now, out of what womb are symbols born? Out of the womb which is usualy called today the “group unconscious” or “collective unconscious. Religious symbols do exactly the same thing as all symbols – namely, they open up a level of reality, which otherwhise is not opened at all, which is hidden. There are two fundamental levels in all religious symbols: the transcendent level, the level which goes beyond the empirical reality we encounter, and the immanent level, the level which we find within the encounter with reality.
