Abstract
Chromium (Cr) is an essential element for the organism, but when it is uptaken more than needed, toxic effects of it can be seen. Cr causes 'hypersensitivity reactions in the skin, particularly. In addition to this, it can be absorbed through the skin and result in systemic effects. This investigation is performed on guinea pigs, which were divided into two groups respectively as the control group (n =25) and the chromium oxide ( CrO3) applied group (n = 25 ). After the application of Cr03 for 21 days, in all the sera of these guinea pigs, some parameters (urea, creatinine, sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and phosphorus etc.) indicating the kidney functions are measured. Then the core- locations of these parameters with serum glucose and urea are investigated. In the result, we have obtained the idea that Cr, particularly affecting the blood glucose and insülin levels in serum, caused variations in the parameters mentioned above. While the harmful effects of Cr on the kidneys are observed to be minimum.
