Abstract
Substance is an important term of philosophy. The term which is used in the meaning of existence, essence, entity and personality, ontologically means essence, reality, and nature of something. This article aims to examine al-Kindi’s reception of substance. To him, substance is a self-existing thing which maintains its existence on its own and does not require anything else to continue its existence. It is also a thing with some features which does not accept generation and corruption. In al-Kindi’s 160 view of substance, it may, sometimes, be seen Aristotle’s or Plato’s influence.
