Abstract
The Georgian Church defends itself as one of the oldest churches, founded by the apostles, and therefore autonomous (autocephaly). The Georgian Church occupies a very important position in the history of Georgia. Georgian society, culture, relations, ideology, etc. have been shaped and developed according to the Church's understanding since very early times. Since Georgia is a place where many different religions live together, it is very important how the Georgian Church, which represents the majority, plays a role in the coexistence of different religions. This study focuses on the Georgian Church's relations with minorities, especially Muslims. The view of different religions in Georgian society and the origins of this view is particularly important, as it shapes the adventure of coexistence. This thesis highlights the conditions under which different religions and Christian denominations live in Georgia and how they are perceived as "different". The spread and rooting of Islam in Georgia is one of the points of the research, because contrary to what is generally emphasized, the first spread of Islam in Georgia took place with the first conquests of Islam. Finally, attention is drawn to what is taught about Islam in the Church's clerical education. This study on "The Georgian Church and its View of İslam and Muslims" is based on qualitative data and is prepared by descriptive method.
