Abstract
The effects of fish oil rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) on the lipid metabolism were investigated in healthy volunteers. After the ingestion of fish oil (AFO) a-lipoproteins were found to be 28.9 ± ll % While they were 25.3 ±B % before fish oil ingestion (BFO ), (p < 0. 01). 3-lipoproteins were 49.1 ± 7.2 % BFO and they were 60.2 ± 10.6 % (AFO), (p < 0.01). High density lipoprotein (HDL) apoprotein A was 13. 15 ± 3.44 % BFO and 16.45 ± 4.82 % AFO (p < 0.05). HDL apoprotein E was observed as a thin band in two of the volunteers BFO and it was observed in five of the volunteers AFO. As a result, we thought that the increases in the HDL apoproteins A and E may be interpreted as an antiatherogenic effect.
