Abstract
This study is planned to establish the correlations of serum copper (Cu) with some blood parameters "hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct), erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets" in mild (n =25) and medium (n =25) severity malnutrition cases. In both of the patient groups Cu, Hb, Hct, erythrocyte and platelet means are found to be significantly (p < 0.001) decreased, when they were compared with the means of the control group (n = 25 ), statistically. The deer as is observed in all the parameters were proportional with the intensity of the disease. At the end of our correlation investigations, particularly in the second group, we have established positive correlations of Cu with Hb, Hct and erythrocytes respectively as r= 0.35, 0.53 and 0.44. In addition, we have observed that these correlations are found to be increased, compared to the ones found in the control group. In conclusion, we have obtained the idea that Cu deficiency can be the accelerating factor or even a causing factor for anemia, which is observed in malnutrition.
